I have been thinking of a Bear Super Mag. I pull an honest 29" with a recurve & wondered how the new ones would hold up to a draw longer than 28.
I have an older Bear Super Mag. that had some stress cracks & I had Bowdoc refinish it almost 10 years ago. I shot that bow a lot & it was a lot of fun, but then it developed a crack I didn't like so I've retired it rather than risk ruining it.
I remember how incredibally well it shot when my form was good & would kind of like another one day. I just read the article in the new TBH about the development of the Bear Super mag. & the rep. put his foot on the string on the ground & pulled the bow till the limbs were so straight the string almost came out of the string grooves.
Anyone with a draw longer than 28" using one regularly?
Thanks Frank
I have one. To me it stacks right at 28. Mine is a newer model.
Same experience as Bud. I draw an honest 31-½ with a high-wrist recurve.
Couldn't get the damn thing past 29"
It started stacking at 28 & hit a wall at 29.
Yup, lotta stack around 28". It seemed like I could feel the riser give in my hand too.
Between finger pinch and stack at 29.5" I put it down quickly, not comfortable for me.
I'd look for an older Kodiak Magnum and leave the Super 48 alone. The Magnum is a 52" bow
For what it's worth, I'm shooting a 52" Magnum now. Since I switched to lefty my draw length shortened just a bit and I'm pulling just at 28". I sure seem to hit, if not a wall, a mighty steep hill right at 28". I think 29" would be a real workout, but this is an older '71 Magnum.
Thanks everyone!
I think if I do go to a shorter bow it may be a K Mag.
I have seen a couple reviews where Super Mags have shattered...

Look at the lowest rated reviews. Granted I don't know how long they were drawing or if they mistreated them in any way, but that is enough to convince me that the K Mag would be better
Most of the Bears of any design I have shot, except the longer ones(64") stack real quick after 28.
