I have always shot carbon arrows but lately i have been kicking around the idea of trying aluminums. I am shooting a Zipper SXT 50@27". Cut 3/16 past center. I am thinking 2016's at 29.25 with 145 up front. Problem is i'd only be shooting 9ish GPP. Does that seem to light for my setup?
Wiser men than I have pointed out that 40 pounds of draw weight with 10 gpp arrows would be considered adequate for deer at least...what you are proposing is shooting a 50 grain heavier arrow out of a heavier draw weight bow...as far as any effect on the bow I have had two bowyers tell me that they feel their bows would be fine with 7 gpp so 9 gpp is plenty

That arrow should be about 495 grains.
Right now I am shooting 400 grain arrows from 46# @29" and I don't anticipate an issue with whitetails. I might go from a 125 to a 145 tip but even that will only give me a little bit.
At those specs, I'm pretty sure you will find the 2016 to be weak. Being cut 3/16 past is gonna move your spine need up. The Stu Miller program should help find the right shaft size for you.
2018's
im sorry i misspoke. the bow is actually cut 1/8 past center!
Sorry guys, but I have to agree with the 2016s. I have a number of bows, recurves and longbows, in that weight range that I draw to over 29 (30 1/8 arrow)and a 2016 with a 145 or 175 grain head is my standard. I have taken many whitetails with that setup. I think most of the charts recommend a heavier spine than needed.
All that being said, I have been hoarding 1918s for years and that is often what I shoot from 48-53# bows due to the heavier weight.

2016's for me. Been shooting them for years. I have tried carbons off and on, but always go back to my trusty aluminums.
Either a 2016 with the .145 point,or a 2018 with a .175 point if you want more GPP. I shoot a 30" 2018 with a .175 out of all the bows in my signature line and they fly great. past 20 yards you will see the 2018's drop off faster than the 2016's but that can be compensated for by your shooting style. The 2018's are very quiet out of my bows. And I'm around 12GPP I believe. I draw 28"es on the dot. Great arrows, both of them. rat'
Legacy 2016 & 2018's are awesome shafts and arrows.
