Title: Brace Height
Post by: Tony Chinn on April 21, 2014, 11:47:00 AM
Hey Fellas

What is a good brace for a Bear Super Magnum 48" also do measure from the depth of the handle or the back of the rest, I was thinking the deepest part of the handle. Thanks

Tony

It's measured from the pivot point - the deepest part of the grip.  Don't know the proper brace height for your bow.  I think that one is outside the 1/8th of AMO rule of thumb because it's so short.

A very general starting point is to twist string so it just leaves the grooves right before their ending point. Then you can adjust it one way or the other a little to find the sweet spot.

I'd say 8-9" from the back of the riser to the string.

or alternatively 6.25-7.25 from the most inset portion of the grip to the string ...

Are you sure about that, Little Ben? Perhaps I am misunderstanding you. It seems the distance from string to inset of grip would always be greater than to back of riser.  But, I am struggling allergy/ head cold today so maybe not thinking clearly.

Ben is correct.

Remember the back of the bow is really the front (the part facing the target) and the belly of the bow is the back (part facing the archer).

Ok, I did forget that - it seems backwards.
Thanks,
