Title: how many strands for D97 string
Post by: DaveT1963 on April 13, 2014, 07:47:00 PM
Wanting to try my first flemish string.  My bow is 55# @ 27 inches and I shoot 500 grain arrows.   The bow came with a 16 stand string passed to 22 in the loops.  How many strands of D7 should I use?  I was thinking 12 padded to 16?  Also is a two stand as good as a three stand?

12 strands with padded loops will be fine. If you are asking if a 2 bundle is as good as a 3 bundle, it really depends on the builder. If they are both built equally well, you should see no difference.

12 strands of D97 is more then enough,I shot 12 strand D97 on a 83# DQ longhunter.I use either .021 or .024 serving depending on which nock I was using.

I agree.  I'd go with 12 strands, loops padded to 18 (unless the bowyer says otherwise).

Properly built, a two bundle is just as good as a three.  A three bundle is easier to screw up--mainly by getting uneven bundle tension.

Thanks Chad - I've watched your video three times now so I think this week I'll give it a go.  I don't have any Dacron so I am going to pad the loops with D97.  If I can find an old bowstring I might cut it apart and get the dacron off it to pad the loops but those strings would be 15 years old.... would that be OK or should I just pad the loops with the D97

Either way will work just fine.  The string may be a little quieter with Dacron padding.
