Title: Kodiak, finally in stock
Post by: LostNation_Larry on April 10, 2014, 02:11:00 PM
Bear Archery shipped us a pair of 45# Kodiaks.  It is nice to get them as they are extremely popular.

I don't think they will be around for long, although they are not spoken for yet.

I'm shooting my 45# right now and I'm almost as giddy as the first time I asked my wife out.

Everything about that bow is beautiful. I've heard that these are made by one bowyer start to finish. Any truth in that?  :dunno:

I know they are hand made  but I've never heard the "one bowyer" story.  Neil Byce, the plant manager, likes to point out that he has trouble increasing production because the bows are hand made.

Either way, they are some nice looking bows. I like what Bear's doing lately.

No, not one bowyer start to finish. Mr. Byce told me that one guy does all of the string nocks for the 59 Kodiak repro--some guys they let do the other models but not the Kodiak.  And I think one guy does the finish work on the Kodiaks. I actually like the idea of a few talented specialists making my bow rather than one guy start to finish.  If all a guy does all day is string nocks, you better believe he gets good at it! Same with other aspects of production.

I too like very much what Bear is doing.  In fact, Bear is making a recurve shooter out of me again.  I love my longbows and have been primarily a longbow shooter for several years, but I got the new Kodiak last summer, recently got a new 2014 Super Kodiak which I am loving and have a Kodak TD on the way which I purchased from a TradGanger.  Yeah, I've been bitten by the Bear bug!     :biglaugh:

I just figured I would put these two videos on this thread instead of starting a new one.
