Title: 70's era Bear Kodiak and fast flight strings
Post by: Coyote Commander on April 08, 2014, 10:16:00 PM
Hello all.

I recently picked up an early 70s model Kodiak Hunter with no string.

Are these "original" Bears fast flight compatible?

This is my first foray into "vintage" bows and im itching to shoot it!

Thanks

I wouldn't run anything but a B-50 string

I would stick with B-50 or B-55. I've heard of folks using fast flight with no issues, but you won't catch fast flight on mine.    :nono:

Another vote for B-50.  I wouldn't run the risk of damaging one of those vintage beauties....esp for a few fps.

Be safe, B 50.

B-55 is the better polyester ("Dacron") material.

That bow wasn't built for high performance materials.  Some folks are using these material on old bows with no problems, but I personally wouldn't risk it.

I won't run FF on mine.

my thoughts exactly.  B-55 on all mine from the 50's to the 70's.

If you are a bit handy you can replace the tip overlays with white phenolic to make the bow FF compatible. I've done this on several vintage Bears and the results have been great.

Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Thanks fellas!

B50...check!

While I got your ear, im assuming the brace heights for these is in the 7-9" range? (60" AMO bow)

Thanks again.

I don't own a Kodiak Hunter....so don't hold me to this....but I'd probably start around 8" and tune from there. I try to tune mine to be quiet. Which is normally on the higher end of the manufacture's recommended BH. But every bow is different.
