New heavy Broadhead Coming 6-8 months. It is being designed and built by one of my customers in Ontario. This is what I have been waiting for.. As you know my site is being worked on so I'm going to see if Gary can get the pictures on. This is a proto BH this one weight 302Gr. and is a one piece head and will be offered upto 400 gr. This head has been shot 50-100 time this evening, in dirt and a few rocks. flies perfect, quiet. Pete Ward will be doing some real tests on the head. All I get to do is hunt with it :) and kill dirt.
Just waiting for the Courier to arrive with the prototypes..
Glue-on?
Kill dirt? Dirt dont digest well. Some of us are older than dirt so I guess we are safe. This sounds interesting since I am using a lot up front with my GTs. Just seems like after I get them flying good they will fly out of about anything that I have within 10-15 lbs of each other.
Pete your going to like these :) They are screw on Solid one piece of metal...

nice lookin!!!!
Bob,
I have to ask. How much stiffer of a shaft is guy going to need to shoot these heads going from 125 grins to 400? I'm already on the upper reaches of whats available on the available market. Sure I can find what I need. I can't imagine trying to find spines 20 or 30lbs greater. I know they're out there. Obviously I'm speaking of wood here.
It does look like a great head to add onto a huge say waterbuffalo arrow, or if ya had the itch to scratch a side of elephant.
I wonder if you could make this head out of a lighter steel to get the weight down without loosing the quality of the head?
Only glue-ons Bob?
Interesting,, They are going for heavy then flute the ferrule??? Looks nice though
Screw on BH...The flutes are to get them down to the 300 gr. area. They will be able to get them to 400 gr. I don't know if there will ever be a glue on head or not.
The BH in the picture hit a lot of dirt and rocks tonight, It will still be hunting in 2 weeks.
I mistook the picture for a glue-on. Screw ins would be much better for me in those weights. Any idea on pricing?
I'm not sure on the price but I would think along the lines of the Montec and similar one piece stainless broadheads. Even if they are a little more you won't have to screw with adding weight to the BH or the arrow insert to get the weight you want ( I want).
This is awesome, Bob! You turned me on to heavy BHs years ago and I've been a devotee ever since. Typically, I use a heavy insert or heavy adapter to get the total weight up between 250-270 and sometimes that is still not quite enough weight to obtain proper tuning with some of my carbons. A head in this weight class will save time and resolve challenges for those os us who are addicated to High FOC.
Claudia
Bob,
What is the lenght to width numbers ? Looks a little less than the venerated 3:1 ratio, but who cares, looks like this thing will penetrate a bunker ! Looks like SS too, is it carbon or SS ? Any idea on Rockwell C hardness ? Most knives are around 50-60, I think Wensel Woodsmans are low 40's.

OOPS, forgot one more thing, what is the blade thickness ?
nocams
Claudia your going to like these. I've been shooting 250-350 for some time now. and the 300 is sweet.
Not quite 3:1... 2.5+- 1 1/8+-. Real close to what I'm use to and I know it works. .040 +- blade thickness.
Bob now you need to talk them into making fieldpoints to match them in weight.
I'm sure someone will come up with the FP. A judo is going to be a problem for me, That what I do most of my practice with...
Zikes what a warhead! I like it!
I think such a head would need a special license, or registering with NASA or something.
A hex head on a steel adapter will get you close for that.
I'll definately be one of the first on the list when these puppies become available. Your right, Bob, that 300 will likely be the ticket for me and the the time it will save me in not having to put together my own BH combo will be priceless!
Claudia
Hmmmm A head that heavy will knock me down from 250fps to 200fps :readit: ...... :bigsmyl:
This is the broadhead I was talking about in "Something Awesome On the Horizon."
Looks even more awesome that I thought it would.
Very cool :0)
Thanks Bob for the blade/ head specs, but is it SS or Carbon ? Looks like SS from the pic ? Thanks again

Hmmmmmm

Is that the same head?....or just the photo angle?....left looks short and stubby...right looks long and lean....probably somewhere in between or two different heads?
Terry, Its the same head just different angles. This one is hardened steel, production will SS, so no rust..
Hmmmm, it's going to be a screw-on head?? But the one in the pic is a glue on?? Is that right?
Are we going to get a glue on for woodies? I like it because it's not fluted, I don't use Snuffers anymore or WW's because of the lack of metal in the blade, but I'd sure like these. I've bent a few Snuffers, these don't look as bendable 'cause of the solid blades.
Shane
Mean looking head, I'd try some. That is, if I can find an arrow stiff enough to hang 300+ grains off of.
You could also use it to hammer in your tent stakes at camp! :biglaugh:
Mark
I like it! I like it!
It's always good to have some choices.
Shane, It is a screw on. On a wood grained carbon arrow. It is tough, quiet and as strong as it can be with the solid blades.
I'm sure the military will want some to use on enemy tanks! LOL!
Very nice!
What kind of steel??? whats the Rockwell??? thanks. :)
oh wow that head is nasty lookin!!!
Aaah, okay. My eyes be deceiving me, nifty lookin' arrow. Don't know if I can be persuaded to go back to carbons but I really do like the looks of that broad head. The solid/thin profile is what I like the best. I shoot long, solid, thin two blades now. This three blade might get me to buy a half dozen carbons...
Is that head wider than a Woodsman? Are the blades further apart?
Roger,
Bob answered that earlier on page two or three I think. It is 1 1/8" wide, so it is 1/8" wider than a WW. It is three blade so, all three blades have blades spaced 120 degrees apart.
Bob, still wanting to know if they are SS or Carbon steel ???
nocams
He said they are going to be produced in stainless.
Please a half dozen myself for a november hog hunt...
Im shooting a 75 grain adapter, 125 grizzly, 21 insert and a .243, 100 grain bullet in some ventures. I want to try some of those...
The production head will be SS. The test heads I have are hardened steel. I don't know the Rockwell but I do know a file will not touch it.
Just in:
Info: proto type- toolsteel O-1, swedish mfg. Rc 46-48 - screw in only ,
poduction type
steel grade SS440 series or SS 17 4PH, no file, stone or diamond to
sharpen, edge should come up very easy and last, enjoyed the read,
Thanks,
ASL
When will they be available to the public?
Do they have an insert that you can remove to make make it into a glue on?
6 months, Maybe some sooner, I hope.
I look forward to them. I LOVE heavy broadheads....
Looks great. Like the Wiffen bodkin with attitude.
I'm guessing that this broadhead will be useful for those shooting bows around 50 to 60 pounds who want a really heavy arrow, especially one with a high f.o.c. balance; they have some stiff carbons still to choose from. I'm also guessing, however, that for those shooting 70 to 80 pounds, it may not be viable, due to increasing spine too much, especially at longer draw lengths; and if it is still an option, then it won't be that much different in weight to what a fellow might already be shooting with 125 grain adaptors, and 160 or 190 grain broadheads...but at least it would give that same weight in a three-blade option for those so inclined.
I think this broadhead and a Grizzlystick shaft would be perfect together.
I would buy them right now if thew were available. I'm shooting this weight now, just getting there a different way. If you need someone to test them on South American critters, I'm ready.
looks like I won't see them untill Monday or later.
Fed-Ex lost the package..
Will they make a two blade?
SWEET!! Shawn
Oh I like that! Sign me up for some 300's to use with the new bow I'm trying to get. I could mount those on some telephone poles and have a bolt thrower. :bigsmyl:
A box was on the table when I got home tonight.
5 stunning beauties were neetly packed in it.
These are prototypes made from steel, so the stainless ones will be even more impressive I bet.
I did not have time to shoot them so I spent some time putting an edge on them and did a bit of spin testing in the press. They spin perfect.
It is no secret I love heavy heads and high FOC so these are just what I like. 300 grains and they look Tank Tough.
Screwed into a 100 grain brass insert they will be 400 grains of devastation. They are now on my hunting arrows ready for the bush.
A few quick test shots is going to confirm they fly the same as the big 2 blade 300's I took off.I am not expecting any surprises, as I change heads often and as long as the weight is close there have been no surprises in the past.
Time will tell though. I will test shoot them before hunting with them.
I am impressed with what I see so far.
Pete
Hey Pete-
Gimme one! I'll kill something with it. Promise.I think it will be THE Broadhead. Been waiting for someone to make a unvented long tough 3 blade BH.
PLEASE!
