Title: Centaur - Arrow Tuning Recommendations
Post by: TxAg on April 05, 2014, 12:14:00 PM
I received a new Triple Carbon Centaur yesterday. I didn't have much time to shoot it....probably 30 arrows. The bow is 60" long and 52@29...i'm drawing a hair over that and it measures 53.5@29.5 on my scale.

My arrows were flying a little squirrely so I'll have to do some tuning when I get some time in the next couple days.

Nock is set at 5/8", brace at 7"
Shooting 3 under
Easton Excel .400 cut to 30.5" with 3x5" fletching
Standard nock and standard insert with 200 gr head

My form felt good, but the arrow seemed to barrel roll on me and i got some heavy shelf contact on the outer side.

Obviously, I will bare shaft but I will be away from the bow over the next two days and thought yall might have some suggestions. Any ideas for getting a perfectly tuned arrow?

I really prefer not to cut my shafts any shorter than 30.5"

Wondering if I should try 340s or go to a lighter head and keep using the 400s

That seems like a stiff arrow but everything I've read says the Centaurs like a stiff arrow.

All suggestions welcome.

Jeff,
I have 2 Chimeras that are close to those spec's

1. 60" 50#@28 Drawn to 29.38" Arrows GT 5575 30.5" BOP standard insert with 175 FP/BH.

2. 60" 52#@28 Drawn to 29.38" Arrows GT 5575 30.5" BOP standard insert with 175 FP/BH.

Both shoot same arrow setup with no issues.

My Double nock points are set up at approximately 3/8 to 1/2 and braced at 7 3/16".

One thing I did different is to add a narrow strip of Velcro on the shelf and then the full strip over the top of this strip. This alleviated the arrow slap and I shoot cock feather in due to feather contact with my bow hand.

^^^ thanks!

The online calculators usually work pretty good for me and it shows a 175 gr head should prove helpful.

I also have some GT 55/75s at home that are cut to 30.5. I will try them with a 175.

I think adding a bottom nocking point will be helpful as well.

I'm also shooting real close specs to you. My Triple Carbon is 60" 52@28". I draw 29" though. So I should be pulling right around 55 pounds. Brace height is set at 7 1/4".

Been shooting 30" Easton Axis 400's with 200gr. heads out of my bow. I would think a 30.5 Axis with either a 200gr. point or 175gr. should work real well for you.

I'm shooting axis 400s with 225 out front arrows are 31.5" similar weight to you. This setup is very versatile.

Don't know if it helps but I got a glass model a smidge heavier then you yesterday, I would guess your carbon probably makes up for the difference. It seems to really like 30" GT5575 with 200gr points so I'm too guessing you need to lose some point weight.

My 3 centaurs all shoot a heavier spined arrow better. I shoot one size stiffer than I think I should out of all of them.

Inquired if riser was DM since these riser are cut 1/8" past center as compared to wood or dymond wood risers which are cut to center.
