How close can they be found to say, San Antonio? I always thought of them to be an arid country critter.
More than you ever need to know about collard peccaries....

There are huntable populations inside San Antonio, but you can't legally hunt in city limits. There are surely some ranches near tow that have them.
Hog hunted about 45 minutes west and saw a few off the highway.
For me San Antonio is sinonmous with hunting in TX. Javi hunting can be found within 30 minutes south/southwest of the main city. However you will find more opportunities for pigs. Are you visiting to area soon?

I'm planning on it. Tx is my home away from home after spending a year there in 90. I'm looking for a full service, meals and quarters hunt for 3 - 4 fellas on hogs and javies. We're prepared to head out to West Texas but nearer to San Antonio would be awesome.
Izzy, the lease that I have had the last 14 years (the same one I am losing to the oilfield this year    ) is about 1 1/2hrs south of SA. There are javies there, but not in great numbers.
If you fly to Laredo instead of SA, you would land right smack in the middle of javiville!

X2 Bisch's comment, Javi numbers are greater the further south you go. Laredo and Del Rio.
Yeah....Laredo...We hunted near there once on one of the TX Sweats....Luguna Ranch.
I got 2...then helped JC get one and then the last morning helped Tippit get one.
We enjoyed it so much we went back for a 'Mod Melt'
We see them all over off the train on the way to Eagle Pass. It's the Kicapoo indian reservation that we go down through the middle of. I don't know of any leases or day hunts out there though, but they are out that way for sure.
