Which have you guys/gals have had more success at deer hunting from? Ground or Tree?
Not which you perfer, but where you have produced more kills from. I perfer the ground, but have taken a lot more game from the trees.
Just curious. ;)
Thanks, Mike :campfire:
it is 50/50 !! that is good, I voted ground but like to do both, killed more on the ground so I voted that way. seriously though ground is harder, tree is easier. (my opinion).
But then the guys out west are dedicated ground pounders. Wil spend lotsa time on the ground this year.
I think on the ground my deficit is wanting to move and see more terrain! if I get up a tree then I am stuck there and will stay in one place longer.

My hats off to the ground hunters!!!I tried it the first week and got USED and ABUSED.Every doe in the woods Blowed me a kiss at one time or another. My climber is back on the tree.
The wind where I hunt will change directions at the drop of a hat.You either hunt in it or stay home.So its back to the trees for me.
I've taken only one deer from a tree stand with a wheelie bow many years ago. Since I've gotten into this Trad Stuff it's the ground for me! Had many "close ones" and get busted alot, but you gotta love the eye to eye contact!
... mike ...
Yep...if I need to make meat it is in the trees. However, from the ground is really the way to go for the complete experience. Tonight I hunted from my Double Bull blind. I had never shot at anything from it. A gray fox came trotting buy so I had a chance to actually shoot thru the netting....fantastic. The fox has a bald spot on his back on top of his shoulder but it was a thrill to have such a cautious animal so close without a clue that I was there. If we had a better deer density in NH I think I would hunt from the ground exclusively.
Ground, but I would much rather be in a tree
I voted tree cuz of deer. Piggies and other game from ground....except alligator from a boat.
NOTHING but ground hunting for me; have filled all of my tags for the last 5 seasons from ground hunting; love not carrying a heavy stand anymore...
I'd love the lightness of the double bull T 5 15 Lb. With light rods, I have purchased three tree stands in 2 yrs , all three set my office while I was out hunting, took every one of them back, I just can't get into the tree thing. Hunting on the ground may be hard, but satisfying, and its hunting. If you know what I mean, you work, I know they're scouting for the tree hunters, but its satisfying sneaking up on does in a rain covered forest.

I like to see.....I'll always be in a tree!
Both have their place, but I'd rather be in a tree. Much more effective way to take game. Especially in areas of high deer density, where eventually if you are on the ground, a doe will bust you and the gig is up.
I agree, though, that the ground experiences are more intense, and that deer I've harvested that way take on additional meaning.
It's all good.
Although I've hunted 50/50 from the ground and from a tree, 100% of my kills have actually been from the ground. No higher than I climb, 6-8 ft, I'm better off being on the ground and setting up so I can have an ambush spot with great cover.

I've only killed one deer from a tree stand...and it happened to be with a muzzleloader at 30 yards. All my others have been off of the ground within 20 yards....one even as close as 3 yards.
Tree, just because of the law of averages. I've spent more time in trees but have taken game both ways. Beginning to love the freedom of being on the ground. Actually I started out on the ground and loved it but lack of success drove me to the trees. Now I THINK I'm a little more skilled hunter than I was and I'm getting back on the ground.
My last deer was from the ground, but most of them are from the trees
