I just roughed out an osage flatbow.I have never floor tillered or bent this bow yet.It is just roughed out.I plan on putting some reflex in this bow.Should I go ahead and tiller the bow or put it on a caul and get it reflexed first? How much reflex should be added?I made a caul that gradually reflexes the limbs to 3".Most of that seems to come back out.How much do you guys reflex?Do you gradually do the whole bow or get more at the limb tips?Thank you....Joe
I usually like to get a self bow to floor tiller, at least, before I add reflex. 3" is plenty. If you add more that that you are apt to overstress the limbs just trying to brace the bow. After the bow is shot in you should come out with a flat profile or slightly reflexed. A little kick at the tips will go a long way in increasing the performance. Pat
I'd agree that reflex probably should be done about when your able to start or early floor tiller. If not that is alot of bending of wood that is going to be removed anyway. Make sure you round the edges off when bending especialy if you flip the tips. It will keep the splinters from coming up. I had one come up on a bow I did (my first actually) fortunatly I had plenty of wood left because the tips were left wider.
I will probably take it down a little more. It's pretty thick right now.
