This is my first arrow build and Ive got 4 coats of sanded and drying Tru-Oil on a dozen 70lb spine ash shafts. They will be dry tomorrow or the next day. Maybe?? Tru-Oil isnt very predictable as to when it will be hard dried. Bought some Stos 160's to top them and all yellow feathers at 4 1/2" long. Im hoping fletching tape will hold to Tru-Oil. I must say I fully understand why top notch fletchers get what they do for a dozen custom arrows now. I will probably make my next shafts from xx75's or some such as that. Takes zero time in arrow finish and the spine will most likely be dead on for each shaft.
I ended up getting a great deal last weekend on the mate to my recently purchased Sauk Trail Spirit recurve. I*s a 62" flatbow/longbow from the same bowyer and is callled the NeeNah. These arrow should shoot in both bows as they are both about 66# @28in. Im selling the wheelbow and going back to cavebow and am having a ball with it all. I will post pics in a week or so when the arrows are done and ready to fly.
I've had good luck with fletch tape on Tru-Oil.
Do you mean dry or cured Tru oil? They should dry in 4-6hours but it may take a week to cure. Some polys can take up to a month to cure. You should not have to wait that long to finish up your arrows. You may want to wait that week to shoot them. Uncured finish sticks like glue in targets. (Don't ask how I know).
As for fletch tape sticking it seems it works where other glues fail. I use Ducco on wood arrows finished with an oil based finish like Tru-oil.

I've been using wipe on poly as a bow and arrow finish for a while, and I find the same thing.
1 day to dry maybe ... 30 days to cure as hard and clear as it will get.
Are we rady to fletch at 2 days or 30?
