I just picked up a used Wallace Mountain longbow on the classifieds. From researching previous posts on Dave Wallace, he is obviously one of the worlds best archers and a heck of a bowyer. How many of you own or have shot a Wallace Mountain? What are your thoughts on the Wallace Mountain bow? I've never shot a straight grip. My bows tend to be the locator style. How hard is it to transition to a straight grip style bow?

I have shot Dave's bows and shot with him in several state championship 3D shoots a dozen years ago or so. You won't find a bow with better finish work anywhere. Dave is a true master.
I haven't seen too many people who talk about Dave Wallace bows, Steve. Those who do, really like them. It's hard to argue with Dave Wallace 's success shooting his own bow. Six IBO World Championships, two IBO National Tripple Crowns, two Traditional World Champion titles and two Shooter of the Year awards.
Dave Wallace has sure won a trophy case full of hardware with his Wallace Mountain. I'm sure he could shoot any bow he wanted and win tournamments with whatever bow he chose, but to do it with your own bow? Wow, that must be gratifying!

The Wallace mountain I had was a stud!!!!!!! Hands down the best gloss finish I've laid my eyes on , the grip is extremely narrow and wedged at the palm to just seat it's self in the right spot everytime. Honesty, it was about as perfect a bow as you could ask for minus the bamboo core mine had. If I could find the red elm Wallace mountain that's out there somewhere id jump on it as I don't like bamboo limbs .

Wow, Brian! That finish is incredible.
Brian, Dave will gladly build you a red elm bow. I have one. I love red elm in a longbow. I think it is as good a core as you can get. I own two of Dave's bows and they are top notch in every way. Not much out there about them as Dave doesn't advertise other than word of mouth, but every bow he makes is a work of art. he makes a fine back quiver as well.
I actually prefer a straight grip on my longbows and don't feel you will have much trouble at all getting the feel for it. In fact, you may come to prefer it.

Really nice looking bow. I checked his web site to see what the price of a new one is but he doesn't have any listed ( at least not that I was able to find). Anyone know some details? Looking forward to hearing what you think of the bow once you get it and have a chance to shoot it.
Dave doesn't post his bows on his web site last I checked. I think it's mostly in regard to his shooting classes. The last I knew his bows were $600. Could have changed but I doubt by much.

My first shot with one of Dave's bows was a bullseye. We traded bows for a few shots at an indoor league shoot near Parkersburg, WV.

I spoke to him tonight. What a great guy. He does build bows, but he is not a full-time bowyer. When he does take orders, his bows cost $600 plus shipping.
