I was shooting at the range today and a compound shooter began asking me about my bow. He inquired about the wood used in the bow, aiming/shooting styles and where to buy one. He also said that he loved the beautiful wood that trad bows are built with more so than the compound, and how much more he enjoyed the looks of the longbow to the compound. By the end of my time shooting, he was telling me that he wanted to buy a trad bow. Perhaps we have a new convert!
Let's hope so.
Good for you!
All some guys need is to see a guy shooting and talk to them. At a club I belong to lots of guys ask me questions and tell me how bored they are with there weapon of choice. I give them this forum to come to, tell them of a few magazines and have even let a few draw my bow back (yes I get terrified every time they draw as I say "don't let go!!!") maybe one day I'll need a back up after all
Good for you!
You're right, Rich. We just started talking and as the time passed, he became more and more interested. He was really struck by the beauty of the trad bows.

Weird as it may seem, I don't believe some people even think of it as an option until they see you. Light goes off, common sense hits and all of a sudden member 4X,XXX comes around - ha!
You lit the spark for sure!
That's how I got into this gig. I saw a couple guys at at 3D back in the early 1990s when compounds ruled the world. Their bows (a black widow takedown and some kind of Hill style longbow) were just gorgeous and they looked like they were having a lot more fun than me. I was just amazed watching them shoot and knew I'd be shooting one someday.
Did you let him shoot your bow?

You're right. The compound shooters don't see us very often and when they do, and get a close up look at our gear, it opens the door to a change of mind. Just like rraming said, they don't even think about it. I gave a plug in for Trad Gang and my current favorite bowyers!

He said he was pressed for time and was getting his bow zeroed-in. If he would have asked, I would have gladly let him shoot mine.
That's what more and more guys need to do! I don't know where hunting is going these days but more people need to look in our direction and realize what a great journey it is!
Sounds like the way I was converted, went to a shop 10 years back to get back into archery after some time out was trying out some new wheels and the other fella there was shooting a Saluki something I had never even seen "BANG" I was hooked got out an old recurve and talked to Lukus that same day.
