Title: Schnees
Post by: Skinnybill on March 07, 2014, 10:35:00 AM
I have a pair of LL Bean MHS 12", and I really like the soles.  People have said they slip when going down wet hills. I haven't had that problem so not an issue. Anyways, I want some insulated boots so gonna order the 16" Schnees.  I don't know whether to get the bob sole or the tractor tread.  The tractor tread is good for feeling the ground like the LL Bean but I'm gonna have the liner in it so I don't think it's going to matter.  So let me know which soles you Shnee owners have and how you like it.

I have the thirteen inch bob sole, they are the best rubber bottomed boot that I own. I'm in mine from October 1st( archery opener) to the last day of rabbit season(February 28th) don't think I'd buy another brand.

I like the tractor tread for most purposes. I have both and the pair with the air bob soles spends most of the time in the closet.

Bob sole is great for wet and the best in the snow.

I've got both types also and it seams the T/T get the nod most of the time. They do tend to slip and slide a little more than the Air bob soles but that just makes me slow down a little more   ;)

I prefer the tire tread for tree stand hunting, since they don't hold the dirt. With air bobs if you move around in the tree stand they will drop dirt on the leaves below and give you away to close deer.

On the other hand we had a lot of snow this year and the air bob bottoms provided much better traction.  I just sent two pairs of boots back to Schnees to have them resoled.  I opted to have one pair of each.

Been hunting in Schnees for 14 years and have the bob soles and love em.  Put miles and miles on my 16" uninsulatef boots every year Spring turkey hunting and they are the most comfortable rubber bottom boot I've ever worn. Have had the bottoms replaced twice. If you keep the leather treated they could easily last 20 years or so with hard use.

Sold my bean boots after one full season in Schnees cause I knew I wouldn't  be using them anymore.

I now have 3 pair.

1o"  and 16" uninsulated and 13" insulated.

I'm a believer.

TT, much quieter.......and I have hunted goats with them, so they work fine in the steep for me. YMMV.

I have had both. In snow the bobs are better and on steep hills the bobs are also better. For everything else I like the tractor tread better...

I have the 16" in bob sole and really like them. Use use the Bean with tractor tread a slipped a lot on wet leaves/mud . They do run small, I take a 9 in every other shoe I have ever had so I ordered 9s and they were way to tight they exchanged for 10s no problems. The 10 are a nice snug fit.

bob sole, very nice-  if you have wide feet they seemed to be small so I can't use them with heavy socks- depends on your width.

I have a pair of Danner Elk Hunter boots. I think the sole is called the bob or air bob, I like it a lot. It will pick up mud to bring in the house though.

I've got a pair of LLBean Main hunting shoes & a pair of their Moccasins. I really like them, they are a great hunting boot & will keep you dry in wet weather. I have even waded streams 6" deep & not gotten wet. I do like them.

There is a Schnees in Bozeman a 3 hour drive. I'm going to try Schnees next time. I can try them on & the price isn't all that much different.

I'd go for the bob soles.
The soles on my LLBean are the shallow chain looking soles & they will slip on grassy/pine needle slopes.

I have the bobs.  Wonderful boots.  The only time I don't like the bob soles is for sitting in a tree after walking where I pick up mud.  As others have noted, bob soles will shed dried mud as you move in your tree stand.  So will TT, though, to a lesser degree.

Just received my first pair of schnees a week and a half ago. already put several miles on them right out of the box shed hunting what a great boot. I have the TT and really like how well you can feel the ground. This will certainly not be my last pair of their boots.
