Just refinished one just like it. Doesn't happen to have a star stamped in the riser?
It's a Ben Pearson of the Sovereign line. Fine bow.
The dark wood in the riser is purple heart.
there is no star in the riser and the black stripe in the riser doesnt really have an grain to it..it almost looks like micarta or g10 or other material than wood. is it stained possibly? and can you tell if the tips are static?
i think the bow may be the ben pearson gold sovereign conqueror? i just googled it. the numbers on the bow are 1046/62"/46-945/41#_28". what would these numbers indicate? thanks again for the help!! :)
Before I stripped the one I refinished I couldn't tell the wood was purple heart. It had darkened considerably... they are 40+ years old.
It could be some other wood though.
I think your guess about the bow is correct. The numbers are probably model number/length/serial number/draw weight @ 28".
ah thank you. did the center stripe on yours look smooth and glossy, almost like paint, before you stripped it? how did it look with the purple heart?
all of the colors really stood out after sanding and applying new finish. The purple heart went from almost black to a nice purple as it's name suggests.
I used a scraper to remove old finish from wood surfaces and just lightly sanded the limbs.
