Title: Can you take string follow out of a hill syle long bow
Post by: bowhunter@54 on March 06, 2014, 11:24:00 PM
Can you take string follow out of a hill syle long bow .my bow laying flat on its back and measure from floor to the back side of tips has a measurement from top tip is 2 inches. And the bottom tip is 1 1/2 inches. When strung up the tiller is a 1/4 inch more on top where riser fades out
Or is this normal? My bow is a 1986 the stick made by martin archery 55#@28 .I havent been able to see or put my hands on another one to compare. Are they supposed to flat or are they supposed to have a curve to them?

sounds like it was standing up in the corner of the room for a long time.I think it may be time to get a bow without problems just my opinion.

The top limb should bend more than the bottom limb. 1/4 inch tiller is good. Some I've say that if you shoot three fingers under the tiller should be the same top and bottom but I don't think you will notice it much.String er up and let fly. Can you take the string follow out? I doubt it or if you would want to. Have a Hill style self bow that looks like it's still half strung when it's unstrung but shoots sweet and flys an arrow through a deer. Maybe a expert bow maker will chime in to your post. Good luck.

sounds like you are stringing it backwards to me. It should be the reverse of what you are posting. it should be reflexed or flat. I don't believe Martin made a string follow and its unbelieveable that a glass bow would take a set like that or even close to that.

God bless, Steve

I wonder if this bow has loaded for years.  Post a pic of it.

I've seen that style of bow with a 1/4 positive tller before. You'd have to really heel down hard on it to keep it from rattling your teeth loose.

Stand on one leg.... grip the bow real hard until your knuckles turn white.... shut your eyes....say a prayer.... then drop the string.... Works great!

Martin made bows for awhile with no glass. Does yours have fiberglass on it?

Kirkll, in your opinion how much tiller should a bow have from top to bottom? 3 fingers under make a difference? Thanks ahead for your knowledge.
