Title: don't blame your wood shaft if ...
Post by: phil_des_bois on March 06, 2014, 04:01:00 PM
don't blame your wood shaft if your nocking point is too low and your nock is too tight. This is what I've learn today. I was bare tuning some wood shaft today and was really surprised by how badly they flew given that it was the appropriate spine. But the nock were definitely too tight, so I enlarged them and the shaft were flying way more better, then rising a tiny bit the nocking point got my shaft flying like dart along the 18 yards between me and the target.
Today is a good day and event after shooting wood shaft for more than 20 years, I still learn something from time to time    :)

Pretty good English Phil. What kind and make of bow are you shooting? All I shoot from my long bows ( mostly Howard Hill's) are wood arrows!

Thank you David, but you should rather say that my english should be better than that since I spent more than 2 years in Boston few years ago   ;)

I shoot mostly shrew bows. Since I've started shooting shrews I have put my Roberston bows on the shelf. I've tried ILF too, it is fun but not as fun as my shrew.

Is that Phil "of the woods"?  My French is very limited.  I hope to improve before my trip there in July.

I too have had a couple of issues with overly tight nocks. By the way Phil, I am practicing my French in anticipation of visiting the Normandy battlefields next September.

I agree Phil. Guys are too quick to blame the arrow if it is wood. Must be warped or bad spine (didnt you check?) or something. Nothing wrong with MY bow!
