Title: Flemish String Jig
Post by: gatorgar on September 18, 2007, 01:13:00 AM
I didn't know where to post this, admin please move if this is not the correct forum.
Howdy guys, I used to twist my own strings but seem to have misplaced my jig.  Could any body send me the specs to making a jig.  I am just about finished with my first longbow and need to twist up a string for it.  Thanks for the imput.

Alex

Hi Gatorgar: you should try the How To section of the forums here. I believe there are some plans for jigs  there. Good luck.

or buy the video, doing the twist.   That way you'll never loose it and see how two great string makers build.  There's no editing of the site to loose it, or banned people to have it taken down by going this route.  Just seems overtime on these sites you loose the good info when ya come to the time ya need it, poof it's gone.

Here is a link to a CAD drawing I made of the one I use. it's not the greatest quality since I had to save it as a .jpg to upload it to photobucket.

Edit: By the way that line in the center is because I cut my jigs in two and install a hinge so I can keep it in my tool box along with my string material.

You really don't need a jig at all. Just measure the length of the string you need, add 16" to that measurement, and drive two nails into the wall at that distance. That's it. Works like a charm.
