Title: Meat head and grizzly s
Post by: Dan bree on March 02, 2014, 10:55:00 AM
Are the meathead and grizzly s  basically. The same head?

I would call them similar, but not the same head.  The Meathead is a carbon steel version of Joe Furlong's stainless Tuffhead.  A true 3:1 ratio broadhead design based on the Ashby studies.

The Grizzly's were originally designed and manufactured by Harry Elburg in the 80's, I think.  A bit wider and shorter than the Tuffhead.  Grizzly's come in two basic profiles, one a bit longer and wider and have had some design improvements over the years.

All are great heads and very well made.

Joe donated several packs of Meatheads and Tuffheads at yesterday's UBI Banquet, but I was outbid at the last minute.

No, they are not the same.  Similar in looks to a degree but different in many ways.  Check out the Tuffhead website and read about their features.  Very impressive.

One overt feature about he Tuffhead is that its ferrule runs the entire length of the BH. The ferrule opening of a Tuffhead is 23/64", a grizzly is 22/64".

I have both, both are excellent.  Before there were Tuffheads, there were Grizzlys.

The thing to me that sets the meatheads and tuffheads apart is the ferrule running the length of the broadhead. This increases structural integrity a lot.

You may have meant Grizzlys.  Meatheads and Tuffheads are the same, just different weights;  190 grain Meatheads, 225 & 300 grain Tuffheads, same overall dimensions and design.
