Title: question to shaft makers

like all inventive trad shooters i want to try a few different ways to make shafts
any one have any opinions on the two blade dowel cutter from lee valley that is made by varitas i thinkit looks good but want to be sure aboutit before i spend two hundred

Don't know about that. I've always liked using saplings and taking them down to size with a spokeshave

I use a steel template that has holes drilled in it from 3/8's to 5/16th's down in 1/32" increments.
I table saw my shafts to size 3/8 always watching for good grain , then chuck the shafts in a drill and run it thru the 3/8 hole knocking off the edges, next hole a little tighter but so on till its at the proper diameter to be close to the spine I need then hand work till she's perfect!
Got the idea from the Traditional Bowhunter mag a long time ago and have used that templater to make many shafts!  Works good!

 but i guess im a lazy sort of guy i wanted easy aaaannnnnnnddddddddd cheap guess i cant have both

Jason,There have been a couple of threads dealing with the Lee Valley tool in the past,so you might try a search.I haven't tried one myself,but they seem to work pretty well from what I read.

Here ya go Jason.. I have the lee valley tool and it works great and is very fast. Just takes some time to get it adjusted right.. Go to page 4 of the listed web page there and you will see my setup. However the first 3 pages are cool also.
