The Rancho Safari website does not have very good descriptions and pictures of some of their packs so I was wondering if anyone here had some experience with certain models
I am particularly interested in Catquiver models 7 & 7.5... How large would you say these packs are? How do they ride with a load in them and what is the big difference between these two packs
Same questions for Catfanny models 5. & 6.5

I ordered the catfanny 6.5 Not sure if the pack is made for a bigger guy or what...I have a 34 waist, and at the tightest setting it is about a 36...front pocket is unusable because the cinch straps were sewn right thru the pocket into the inside. Doesn't look like the pic or fit the description on the website. Very disappointed...and after speaking with Jerry, the owner (prior to purchase) I felt I was further misled...he had very little idea the difference between the two packs I was looking at...I went off picture and description...I will be looking elsewhere for a pack.
Called jerry and he said they make a smaller model that fits a smaller waist...that was never offered on the site or disclosed during the many phone calls I made asking questions about the packs...I just assumed, like the many other packs I've owned, that they adjusted to fit most any waist.
Could not be more disappointed.
I have a cat 6.5 it's a great well thought out pack.
It's plenty large . Mine has 3 pockets on the right hip a large med and smaller. Then the quiver ties in behind them then again up on the shoulder,strap. The main compartment is pretty big. It also has 3 compartments a big med and a smaller one. I would keep my winter hats,gaitor,heavy gloves.
My lunch . With plenty of more room. The med. pocket has a security pocket inside I would keep my license gutting gloves,tie wraps spare truck key spare tab,
. Then I would keep my calls GPS sharpener.knife,butt out ,
Then in the small or I should say shallower pocket I would keep my hand and foot Warmers. And snacks.
On the left hip mine has a bottle holder and a bow hook. I think the newer ones have more pockets instead of the bow hook.
The pack also has 2 sets of bedroll straps top and bottom. And has extra buckles to mount there piggy pack.
The pack has a lot of plastic d loops and some nylon loops to tie a lot of extra stuff. And a loop to hang in a tree.
The pack fits and rides very nice I feel really snug with this pack. Mine is fleece and very quiet. I have actually used the pack without the quiver when I would use a bow quiver.

thanks for the excellent review and details about the pack... Regarding size and capacity have you had other packs that you would compare it to?
Does it have anything on the back that would help airflow between the pack and your back as you hike...and are the hip straps padded?

Sorry I haven't owned anything really close to compare to. As far as capacity goes. I just used mine for more or less,a day pack and always had plenty of space. If your going on a week long elk hunt you may need something bigger like the 7 or 7.5.
There's really nothing on the back to promote airflow. The hip belt is padded maybe 3/8 thick. It does have some type of aluminum staves in the back for lower back support.
Keep in mind too that my pack is probably 10yrs old. It's been washed many times and has been through all kinds of weather. I broke one zipper on one of the side pockets my fault though I kept stuffing a pair of binoculars that were probably to big to go in there. I'm not sure if the new ones are different or not.

Anyone else with the larger rancho safari packs?
I also have the 6.5 and I REALLY like it ... Shoulder straps are comfortable, good chest strap, and waist belt. I can put more stuff in all the compartments than I want or need to carry.
It is more like a fanny pack but way more comfortable than most, and it is quiet ... If you want to pack out game or carry all your bivy gear this is NOT the pack. If you just want to go on a LONG day hunt with all you will ever need this IS the pack that will fill the bill.

I have tried several cats including the 6.5 which is a nice pack but have found that I can use a day pack of my choosing and attatched a mini cat with zip ties and have a very nice combo. I have a smaller version. CatQuiver 2. I really like it. Glad you let us know about the adjusting of the waist issue. I had considered one of these packs but will probably look into something else. Thanks for your post.
Sorry to hear that. I was looking at there web site a few days ago they don't make my model anymore they changed it . I have the opposite problem with mine and I have a 34in waist also. When I layer up when it gets cold I almost have to have the waist belt maxed out. Which puts the side pockets and the quiver farther behind me and a little harder to reach.
Oh well, send er back for sure
