Bill Langer and his father Dick are down scouting out and hunting a new property we recently got access to. Irv gave them the tour of the property and turned them loose.
I will be joining them tomorrow(after my fishing charter).
I believe they have 3 or 4 hogs down already. I will post picks tonight and hopefully Bill can chime in and tell the stories!

Tarponnut,
How close are the hog hunting properties to the Sarasota area. Thinking of asking the wife if she'll let me sneak away for day while we're on vacation,
Thanks,

Looking forward to late April! Gonna be a blast!
On stand now waiting for pigs....
Tuesday morning Dad and I left freezing cold CT 8am.
Landed in Sunny and warm Orlando Fla 11am.
Checked into motel 6 in Fort Pierce about 3pm.
Met Irv, put our bows together and headed towards the new hog land.
Irv showed us the gates, locks, boundaries etc.
The property had been deer hunted in the past and had numerous old treestands and three ancient feeders that were not running when Irv toured the property the day before.
He corned up three of the old set ups that morning.
It was 4:30 by the time our tour ended, so Dad and I checked the wind, split up and went to opposite ends of the ranch...
I saw lots of hog sign and three deer, in an area Irv called the bottom.
Dad had lots of hog action on the north end of the ranch that lead to him arrowing that big red boar. I'll let him tell that story.
Nice hog dick. Bet you guys are havin fun , still running every minute thru my head. nice lookin hog toeing vehicle ( is it 4 wheel drive)hahaha. hey room 144 at the motel 6 good cooler I mean bathtub for keeping your hog cooled down over night if need. Jim can help carry and Irv is a great lookout for the maids. Have fun guys.
:campfire:
I meant to keep typing the story from the stand.
But I had a group of hogs come in while writing...
Long story short, put a good arrow on a 70lb sow.
Donated it to an old fella that sells boiled peanuts on a street corner down here. He has 17 grand children, most of which he takes care of himself. He is well into his 80's.
By the time we got the hog to him and met Jim, Irv and three new hunters from Jersey, Frank, Dave and Jaimen for dinner...well it's midnight and I'm headed to bed. Will continue tomorrow.....
That's awesome Bill, good for you!

What's the difference between a rental car and an ATV?
A rental car can go anywhere. :smileystooges:
Sounds like fun Wild Bill, you & your dad keep up the good work !!
On night 2 I moved up near Dad and sat by a feeder that Irv had fixed up and corned up.
At about 5:30 a group of hogs came down a heavily used trail towards me. When they hit a little corn I had thrown out by hand, their noses hit the ground as I hit anchor and picked the spot on a big red sow...
The woodsman tipped carbon arrow slipped dead center through the vitals....
The hogs scattered, as my heart raced and I watched the big red sow on her last sprint across an open grassy marshland.
When darkness set I took up the easy to follow blood trail that went 125 yards to my pig.
Dad and I skinned and butchered the hog late into the evening. The dried blood on our forearms and sore muscles confirming a successful hunt.
Hey there Tommy Boy good to hear from you!
We were remembering the hog/bow fishing trip that we took to Texas a few years back, as Dad and I arrowed 4 tilapia yesterday.
On day 3 we slept in tired from our late night of labor.
That evening we hunted Jim and Irv's main lease "The Dead Horse Ranch"
Dad sat the east grove stand and saw some rats but no pigs.
I sat the jungle stand.
5:00 a small sow and runt piglet showed up, fun to watch.
5:30 nice red boar came in, filmed him for 30 minutes.
6:00 small sow, runt piglet, big tan and white sow and a black and white sow came in. They spooked and ran off. Upon their return I placed an arrow behind the shoulder off the white and black sow, short blood trail, perfect roaster....Dad and I are having fun!!!!!!!!!!
First night on stand after setting up camera making sure view was correct I was ready to hunt. It wasn't long and the pigs were moving , first was a big boar in and out no shot opportunity . It was quiet for awhile when deer started fileing in.Wind was perfect for the grand total of deer at one time was 7 feeding . I was sitting in a ladder stand with a safety rail across the front not good for me.Every time I pass wind I blow sand in my shoes, get the picture I can't reach over it with any comfort to shoot just not tall enought. This situation came back to haunt me. I was set up to shoot and film after dark all being new for me. Sun setting Mosquitos bitting I turned my thermocell on. Shortly before dark two hogs came in maybe 75 lb each fed forever never giving me a shot after they leave it goes quiet. It's dark I hear noise to my left big red comes in lights on camera rolling I'm ready, come on stop moving give me a shot I'm saying, finally broadside dame safety rail I have to hang off right side of stand to shoot. Very bad position shot goes high and slightly back doesn't look good on review. I decide to wait until morning to pick up blood trail , the pictures tell the rest of story.
Great story Dick. Congratulations! Sounds like you guys are having a blast!
On day 4 we slept in again.
Dad and I met Irv around 9 am at one of their leases and helped repair some of the barbwire fence keeping the cattle in. At 70 years old each, Irv and Dad worked harder than all the 20 year olds I've hired to labor for my excavating company back home. We got a lot done in a short amount if time for the ranch owner!
Dad and I hunted there that evening till 10pm. Dad saw some pigs, I killed a couple coons and we got soaking wet,as I mentioned earlier in this thread.
Saturday morning we bow fished one of the many canals in the area and managed to land 4 tilapia, which we gave to a local fisherman, fishing with 5 of his 14 kids!!
So that gets us caught up till last night when I shot the 70lb sow. Back on the same stand tonight, with Dad to the north east and Irv hunting the bottom stand which is torn up with hog sign!
We just need Jim to post some of the many pics we have sent him....
Arrowed a coon last night right at dark, head shot.
Dad saw some deer and a few coons, no hogs.
Irv had a run in with a big black boar, I'll let him tell the story...
Jim and I shot a couple more tilapia today and got some great footage of a 4' gator sunning himself about 8' away as we bowfished, told some really bad jokes and laughed till we cried. Fun day!
Back on stand as I type looking for another pig....
Dick Langer warming up. (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/8.jpeg) (http://s301.photobucket.com/user/tarponnut/media/8.jpeg.html)
great thread... thanks makes sitting at work a little more bearable
Thanks for taking the time to share this. Great stuff!
Looks like a great place guys. congrats on the hogs.
The property is great hog land!
Last night I finally got a shot at a blonde colored little boar about 70lbs, that I had seen on three different hunts. The pig was always nervous, circling me then running off etc. when the shot finally came I blew it, shooting low in the arm pit, cut some skin, little blood, just a three blade tattoo for life on the little guy.
On stand now, last night of the hunt.....
I've seen a big tom bobcat and an otter so far this sit...
Thanks for sharing Bill and Dick. I was in Okeechobee Sat. - Tues. Back at the desk now. Caught a bunch of nice bass.
I wish I knew you were in town Terry, Dad and I would have taken you out for dinner. We are headed back to snow and ice ourselves.
Well I ended the hunt seeing 3 coons and a 20lb hog after the otter and bobcat sighting. Dad got skunked on the last night.
I want to thank Irv and Jim for their help with another great hog adventure. We captured lots of video footage and had a priceless time in the Florida swamps!!
Now Jim needs to post some of the pics I sent him.......
Cangrats

OMG dude that's just too funny. Either way glad you had a great time.
Sounds like a eat time was had by all....cept the hogs!!! Awesome hunts
Nice!!!
Looking forward to the next group coming in this weekend. Both are repeats. The properties have had a good rest after the last group. By the way, six of the last 7 guys that have hunted with us have shot hogs. The seventh saw hogs just no shot opportunities, a very rare thing.
Splendid adventure>>>>thank you for sharing!
Looks like they had a great hunt!
Congrats to both!
Bisch
Very cool!
Sure do know that spot! Looks like soxes brother.
Hey Irv just got back from the keys, you were right a lot of Gerry's there. hahaha
I'll take hogs to shoot at over a lodge and dinner every time. If guys want to kill a few pigs with a great outfit, head to Florida and TSA.
Looks like lots of fun. Need to make a trip down to TSA.
Thanks guys. We still have a few spots open this spring for hogs.
Book now.
These properties tend to be volatile.
It takes a lot to gain access to good hog spots here.
We may not have them forever.
Summer hunting is great.
Weve got spots open in April too.
Ocean breezes and hunting early and late mean its never too hot.
The big hog Bill referred to earlier?
Hes still here...Been seen back at the feeder.
My shot was a terrible one.
Irv it happens to all of us, the old cliche, that's why it's called hunting, not killing....
Kate asked when I was going back to hunt with u guys, I quickly said April, for hogs and turkeys...she said that should be fun!!!!!
Irv thanks for your fine hospitality ,enjoyed myself thanks to you and Jim at True South Adventures. When my wife retires I intend to spend more winter time in FLA fixing fences and hunting hogs!!!!!
Heck Bill, if I had the time, I'd drop in on your turkey hunt!! I'm still beating myself up over getting picked off by that Tom at 8 yards in the orange grove. As I said before, I'm going to have to live this year through Kent's hunt!! Good luck!
Ahh come on Sean u can make it...
I was working at the newest property recently and observed a nice red sow sleeping under feeder #2.
She didn't move till I slammed the car door.
I guess I could have thrown my screwdriver at her.
LOL
Any way, all are filled and spinning, there is a boat winch on the bottom feeder now, so all are easy to fill.
Landowner informed me we have to move out till after turkey season....so book for after April 20th guys.
You are a worker Irv!
I'm sure those set ups are just perfect for the bowhunter now.
Finished editing the bow fishing video we shot last week for Traditional Adventures 9, great stuff, you and Jim stole the show....
Looking forward to giving them h#&l at our hunt the last of April! Great story!
My wife and I are going next week. Should be fun. It will be my first time with TSA.
Any pointers?
Bill
Hey Bill
Hunt those Florida hogs like U hunt those IL whitetail and you'll do fine.
Go early and stay late!!
Good luck!
Hey thanks Bill, gotta say I am a big fan of your dvds. Pretty sure I have them all. Your videos and the fact that Jim and Irv are WTA members (me too) made this choice a no-brainer.
It sure is going to be nice to escape this long winter we are having. It is supposed to snow again by us on Friday...
Thanks,
Bill
Great recap guys! Congrats!
Good Luck Bill!
:clapper: :clapper:
Great story! Thanks for posting it up!
Good luck Bill. I will be anxious to hear how it goes.
Good Morning, Bill,
Jim and I are ready for you.
Sites are getting a good rest right now.
We've been having exceptional luck this year.
Last group of three harvested four nice eaters and missed one clean.
We've also been shooting some nice tillapia.
if you can spot them early, then sneak up on them, it works.
Shot three yesterday.
Last weeks guys had a hard time quitting bowfishing in time to go after the hogs.
It's all fun.
My minds down there guys!!! For the first time all winter I'm thinking about Florida !!! Good luck guys!
Me too, Sean!! Less than 2 weeks for me, now. Irv and Jim..fyi..I did manage to get a reservation at the Road Runner so I'll be setting up camp there. Are they gobbling?? I saw my first strutter here in WI, yesterday, so I'm chomping at the bit! Got my deke, calls and bow ready to rock :) Maybe I'll be able to hit a fish or two this time, also. Lol..! Good luck Bill and to all the TGs heading south!
Rumor has it Bill W has a story to tell.......perhaps a pic to share.
BillW (Wright) took a great boar Saturday before dark. Pic is in Highlights section. I'll let him tell the story, it's a special one!
Always wanted to hunt with true South. Cool pics. Going to make it next year!
Good luck with the swamp chickens Kent and keep us posted on your hunt, hope you shoot a monster!
Thank you, Bill and I'll give you the play by play asap!
Kent, I'll be checking in next week while in Cincinnati!! Good luck buddy!!
