Finally started snowing last night. Have about 4 inches on the ground and drifted to knee deep in places. My Youngest (Damon) and I had a hot breakfast and then got Ann (our Beagle) loaded in the truck and headed out. My Wife (Cindy) wanted to know what we were probably going to bring back and I said "Wet Clothes". Little did I know that I was right.
Anyway as luck would have it our favorite Bunny spot had been invaded by other hunters with dogs and guns. We waited and watched while they headed down a fence row and then turned East. We followed up and then turned West figuring that we would stay out of each others way. As we headed West up a timber draw I did hear one of the hunters say that "what do they think they will get with those bows".
As time went by and the snow kept coming down we weren't having any luck digging bunnies out of there burrows. Ann did try to get some out of a burrow under a fallen tree but to no avail. All she could do is stick her head in the hole and beller at them. I guess they were smarter than us. After a couple hours of this we decided that we weren't going to do any good.
Taking a breather while Ann kept hunting Damon made a Adominable Snow Rabbit. We backed off about 15 yards and killed it good. Blunt after Blunt whittled away at the dangerous critter until I finally put one thru its chest. Damon zoned in and his last shot took its head off. Now that are thirst for the kill was past we decided to head back to a warm truck and head home for some homemade chili. As we reached the truck we met up with the other hunters and I asked them how they had done. "Never even seen a rabbit" they said. Little did they know that we had had a great time.
Moral of story is hunting is what you make it even if you go home with wet clothes.

Court,
Great story and great pictures. My daughter Brier and I got out to enjoy some of that snow also. We stalked some public ground just outside of town. Stumps and such were hit and missed and we jump one rabbit that was out from under a cedar tree and into the briars before an arrow could be sent. We ended up back at home for hot chocolate and snowman building.
Looking forward to getting together sometime and flinging some arrows. Take care!! Chris

Let me know if you find a decent spot to bunny hunt Chris. We have so many coyotes, hawks etc. around here that the rabbit population has really dropped off in the last couple years. Yesterday I seen a Bald Eagle making off with one. I think we have more rabbits in our yard than there is outside of town.

Here's the one where Ann was talking to the bunnies in the burrow. (http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q271/bowmac_photos/1-21-07bunny007.jpg)

Ron,
Wish I would have know there was a shoot today. I would have tried to make it.
Court,
I was thinking about the area around Lake Sugema, for a get together hunt. Brier and I was over there a couple weeks ago and jumped a rabbit and seen good sign and this was before snow. There is alot of area to hunt and maybe some others could make it. If nothing else we could meet and shoot some stumps.
-
Ron, I guess I didn't realize there was a shoot either.
