The glare of the sun on the snow made focusing on my target extremely difficult. Pulling back to anchor, I heard a crunch-crunch sound coming up behind me. Slowly releasing the tension on the bow, I turned to see my four-year-old granddaughter making her way to me.
"Are you out here by yourself?" I asked.
"No T-pa, I'm with you," she said.
"So you are," I answered.
The next few minutes were a rapid-fire session of dialogue that I forget most of, until she said, "I'm going to be a dancer when I grow up. What are you going to be when you grow up?"
I couldn't help but smile. At 62 she had nailed me; I hadn't grown up. Rallying as fast as possible I held out my recurve and said, "A bow and arrow shooter."
"I bet you need a lot of practice T-pa." Pow! She had me again.
"Let's go see what the target looks like," I said. We both crunched the twenty yards to the hay-backed bag target where I pointed proudly to the tight grouping of arrows in the lower left circular target on the bag. I didn't tell her that the grouping was not an everyday occurrence, she's only four.
"I think that's good enough to get a deer this season, don't you?" I asked.
Looking at me with her big unbelieving eyes, she said, "T-pa, how you going to put the target on the deer?" Pow!
I'm new to the site. Just getting back into traditional and wanted to say Hi. I've been enjoying the aggregate wisdom to be gleaned. Still looking for a four-year-old's answer for target transference. Ha!
Welcome, one of the best introductions I've seen. :archer2:
Welcome, as a 62 year who still has yet to grow up I can only think about my 2 year old grandson and questions that are to come. Again welcome!!
I you do find out an answer to the target transference, I'd like to hear it!!!

The young ones do have a way of cutting through the adult nonsense, don't they?
Welcome and enjoy those curious years. There may be a future hunting partner there.
Welcome. You will fit in good around here.
Welcome! Sounds like you have a heck of life coach there. I would follow her advice. Enjoy the trad journey! Oh,and when you 62 year olds figure out what to be when you grow up, send some wisdom to this 52 year old.
Welcome, great story. Grandkids are the best
Welcome from Kentucky!
welcome from Georgia
Great intro, also 62 here and haven't decided what growing up is all about. Welcome from the Valley.
Welcome---in my case it is not a case of when I grow up --------It is more of---IF--I am ever going to grow up. This almost 72 year old doesn't
want to grow up. Too much fun.
Broken Quiver
Welcome. Great post.

62yrs. And growing
Great intro
growing old is mandatory....
growing up is optional
welcome, and enjoy the ride
Thanks to all for a warm welcome and a place at the fire. Being on the site is like visiting with old friends that you have something interestingly in common with--it's a good book you can't put down, with a desire to reread it over and over.
Yes, I'm bringing all the grandkids along. I'm excited that they are all interested in shooting. Works in great with our bush crafting. I may have misjudged my retirement date; looks like a lot of bows to buy! :D
John
Welcome! nice introduction.
Hey John,Welcome to the Gang,I'm in the same situation, a good place to be.Young bows can easily be made ,a Hickory board ,some power tools, sandpaper for the kids and viola instant young bows. They really feal part of the journey. All the best.
Welcome Friend... Your Grand Daughter sounds like she's going to be a pistol :)
62 here also....
:wavey:  :campfire: :archer:
Also born in 1952.
Get yourself a birth year bow. Some '52 Bear Kodiaks are still shooters, and this is what the 62 year-old design can do:

Only one problem. My 62 year-old vertebrae creak more than the bow!
Nice, and welcome! :wavey:
Almost 62 here too.Im retireing next month, but I started building bows last winter so it won't hurt the pocket so bad for the grandkids bows. ;)
Welcome, its a great site with great people. :coffee:
I've been a member for only a few days and I've learned the creaking I hear when drawing to anchor may not be my new boots. Ouch! Maybe geriatric deer will think I'm one of them and walk into range.
Building bows with the grandkids is a great project idea and a money saver! One of my sons has a large hickory tree that needs to come down. With a total of 16 grandkids and one great grand daughter, :dunno: I will need the entire tree. Ha-Ha!
Sorry if this is chitchat, but the welcome is appreciated.
Thanks All
John
Welcome and I look forward to your insightful, well written stories and contributions!
As a grandfather I got a kick out of your story...keep them coming and welcome to tradgang.
Very nice intro. Welcome
