Title: String length for semi-recurve?
Post by: RETARMY06 on February 18, 2014, 08:19:00 PM
Okay, just got a 1968 Bear Cub 60" semi-recurve.
I know that the rule of thumb is 3" shorter for a longbow, 4" shorter for a recurve. Now the weird part - the string it came with is only 55" long.
The brace height is 8" measured from the back of the shelf, 9" from the deepest part of the handle.
Any advice?

run it.(add.....I mean by run it if your arrows that you are useing fly strait,or no stackng)
run the 9 inch brace height

Amo 58 string will be 3 or 4 inches shorter, 54 to 55.
my 67 inch stag has a amo 65, string is about 61 inches, my bow settled in with a 8.25 B/H

You will probably get more answers to this equipment question on the Pow Wow.  This is the "shooter's FORM forum."

Brace height is way too high for that bow I'd think. Go with a 56" string and 8" bh measured to deepest part of handle.

Until I order a Flemish twist, I fattened up the thin serving (arrows wouldn't stay on) and put a nocking point on the string that came with it.
This old 40# bow flat out GITS IT!    :D
The arrow is in the target almost before you think about releasing!
You can drive nails - consistently. I'm sure my 45# bow could too, if I could pull it back to anchor consistently. So once I get that new string and tweak the brace height I'll be unstoppable.
