I am a 1 piece recurve fan and am looking for a new one. I have narrowed it down to two choices, the Maverick by fox Bows and the Shafer 1 piece by Mr. Windauer. I like the looks of both and am looking for some real world reviews from some fellows who have shot them.
The three most important things for me are:
1. quietness
2. stability and forgiveness
3. point where I am looking
Let me know how you think those two stack up and feel free to through out some other names. I all ready have rose oak and blactail 1 piece bows so am looking for something new.
There are some fine one piece recurves out there. I'm really impressed with my Fedora H560 one piece.
Smooth, stable, fast, excellent workmanship and I'm a big fan of the thumb rest.
Highly recommend Cari-bow product line. As to trying something new...read whats being said on this site about Abe's static tip recurves...Tom.
I think the Schafer one piece is just a great looking one piece. I would go for a dymondwood handle for the strength and mass weight for stability. I have never shot one, but most guys tell me that the grip on the Schafer is the bomb.
I think I would go with the Schafer, and I have a Fox High Sierra. But I prefer a lower grip and a larger sight window. Next year seriously considering a Schafer Silvertip!
never herd of a maverick. I do love my Shaffer it is a great shooting bow you also should consider looking at the Brandon stahl custom delight a great one pice shooter as well good luck.
I have a one-piece Silvertip coming in a couple weeks, stay tune for a review... :saywhat:
Another great one-piece recurve is a Blacktail by Norm Johnson. I really like mine.
As Joe Skipp said "there are some fine one piece recurves out there" and that is VERY true!! I am fortunate to have a couple Silvertip one piece, and another due this fall! I have found the one piece to be the perfect weight with a quiver attached, and very quiet to shoot.
I think 60" bow and my 28" draw is very forgiving, and the medium checkered grip is the best out there IMO!
I shoot mine from an elevated bear weather rest, and it definitely points where I am looking, well...most of the time :scared:
Good luck with you decision!!
Can't wait for the review Easykepper!
The 1pc S-Tip is awesome.
I ordered a new 60", LH Maverick about 30 days ago. It will arrive the end of May (this year). I also was trying to decide between the Maverick and the 1-piece Schafer. I owned a Fox High Sierra (TD) from 2001 to about 2011. I continue to own a Silvertip TD - great bow!
I am very fond of the High Sierra grip and expect the Maverick to be as good. The bit of palm swell feels sooooo good! I like the lines of both the 1-piece Schafer and Fox. Had a LH Silvertip showed up in the classifieds I would have bought it first.
The Maverick I ordered will be very similar to the one pictured on the web site except it will be Satin and the veneers will be yew.
I'll have to admit, one of the factors in my decision was the wait time -- 3-4 months vs. 10 months plus. Don't get me wrong, the Schafer is great and worth the wait, I just didn't want to wait this time.
One almost never sees either bow (in LH at least) for sale on the used market.
Whatever your decision you will surely love it!
By the way, not that your looking for other 1-piece suggestions but.... I have a Rose Oak Ultra Delight Special Edition being built this very day. I hope to receive it early next week.
It is going to be a lot of fun comparing the two; Fox and Rose Oak. (The wait time on the Rose Oak was long but I caused it to be about 8 months longer than it needed to be.)
I have to confess to never having shot a Maverick, but it is interesting that a lot of people compare a possible purchase to a Schafer.
I have owned Schafer longbows and recurves. Smooth and stable bows.
I never have understood 'point where I am looking'.
Good luck in your search.
