Hello folks, me and a good friend will be heading down to Texas to go Hog hunting this weekend. I have never gone for hogs and was wondering if setting up a blind impromptu with minimal brushing would spook them?
We plan on trying some spot and stalk as well
Just find a natural spot to break up your outline, or add a little brush and you'll be fine. Don't make too much movement and they won't see you.
Popup blinds are not that good for hogs in winter unless you really brush them in. A quick natural blind and a stool work well for me and my gillie.

I would go with just finding a spot to break the outline. Building a blind, even a small brush blind, requires that you move around in the area that you will hunt and this has the potential to wreck the area with scent. This is compounded on a short hunt because there is no time for things to return to normal. Worry a ton about their noses and worry little about their eyes.
Good luck on your hunt.

Hey Michael,
Hope you have a great time and we expect a full report when you get back!
Then you maybe you can teach me a thing or two and we can go after some of those piggies you posted pics of awhile back.
Be careful and have fun, buddy!

On a hunt in Texas once we used a tree seat, a 2x6 with a V cut in each end about 26" long, and it worked very well. Just wedge it between a couple of good branches. Another time I just sat up in a big oak with a low hanging branch I could sit on and rest my back on the bigger trunk. They didn't seem too interested in looking up.
I'd only used a blind at night, never seen the need during the day since you're walking or can stand off to the side of the road and watch what comes out and make a sneak on the pigs that come out. Last year I killed a nice one at about midnight out of my hidden hunter blind but it was brushed in really good. When not brushed in the pigs avoided it but deer, turkeys and cattle didn't notice. Next time I get down to Texas I'll leave the blind behind and just use a ladder stand and secure it in the thick brush with a couple of poles. You can get away with more moving around.
