Think Im on to something here!!!

That will really stiffen up the spline it is like cutting the length of your insert off your arrow length but if it works for you go for it. Widow
Sorry Spine I am a bad speller. Widow
Sounds like you are on track.
There are numerous ways to get there.
Ex...Had 300 gn points machined down and tapped ... total of 6 from 200 to 202 gn... initially built for Techno Hunt and small game heads.
Estimate for your set up:
- Victory VForce HV300....~27 5/16 long
- Insert - 50 gn
- Machined point adaptor - ~200 gn
- BH & steel adaptor - 240 gn
- Total wt- 704 gns
- Ultra-EFOC ~ 33.7%
Note: Every 1% FOC increase at this FOC range may yield over a 6% increase in penetration.
Maybe I am too simple? But if using Gold Tip shafts, why not use 100 grain threaded GT inserts and use GTip's threaded weighting system? That is what I use, and am able to get any arrow weight possible that flies well with any weight tip I want. Scott.
I have tried something similar before to accomplish what you are looking for and to beef-up front end for heavy hits. what I noticed in my testing was when I am at full draw the part of the arrow shaft that actually sat on the shelf needed to be able to flex. when I ran my inserts far enough down the shaft to over lap the shelf I didn't get any flex at that point and my setup was not very forgiving at all. I could get some good flight at times but not every time. I started leaving my arrows longer to allow room for all my inserts to lay forward of my bow when at full draw. I did no documented testing, I sort of wing-it when it comes to my testing. i'll shoot a setup for @ a week and then make my changes. this is just my observations. I do shoot 3 fingers under and run a double nok set around 1/2".

Great point. I thought about trying the wrights but the inserts I have are not threaded and I literally have a couple hundred of them. I also like the fact that I could adjust the weight while experimenting by grinding the extra insert down.
Its all in the beginning test phase for me but looking forward to where it ends up.
Main goals were stronger shaft and more for and not have to stuff rope in the shafts any more.
So far this set up seems to provide both. I'm kind of old fashion in that I don't like to change what works. Son this is a big step out of my element...lol
If it flies well I like it. Especially if it causes a limber shaft to act "stiffer" and gives you EFOC. If you can achieve that with the lighter shaft weight you get more of the over all arrow weight up front. Fly like a lazer hit like a sledgehammer.
What broadhead are you shooting? How well would it meet up with an aluminum footing? 2219 fits pretty well on the 55/75 for me, might be loose on the 35/55.
Beau,
2219? Really? I've been using 2117 on 5575, but that was the black version...perhaps you're speaking of the "trad" which has the overlay of the wood grain?
BTW, all GT's in the 3555, 5575 and 7595 are supposedly the same O.D.
Yeah 2219. I put a pretty thick layer of epoxy on the shaft, after I prep it of course, and I've had good results.
Well i shot another 30 bare shafts in my garage tonight at 30 feet. the 3555's fly best with my quiver on and full of arrows. 5575 fly best with the quiver off (never ever shoot this way, so most likely my shooting causing issue).
I cant believe a 27 in 3555 with that set up would fly so good out of a 63# longbow. but the bare shafts dont lie. Gonna fletch a couple and shoot along side my bare shafts tomorrow and see how it all comes together.
I think the reason the 3555 work is becasue of the now basically 3 inch long insert stiffening up the spine. i guess same effect as cutting the arrow down from a 27" to a 25.5" becasue of the extra insert.
I thought about a aluminum footing but since I only have about 1 inch of shaft out front i didnt think it would be good to draw the footing across the leather shelf with the aluminum footing lip. I have a ton of 2117 shafts as i used to shoot them all the time....might have to try a alum footing just too see.
That will work. Lots of ways to get there as has been mentioned. Another cheap, easy way is to glue a .243 bullet in behind the insert.
