Ok so I guess when I wasn't looking Beman went from the MFX Classic to a name called Centershot. I have a bunch of MXF classic 500 s that are 9.7 grains per inch. I want to get some more of these shafts because they fly well out of my setup.
I looked on the Beman website and the current Centershot 500 spine are way lighter per inch. They are 8.3 gpi, and the 400 spine is 9.6 gpi . They don't have the same spine / weight numbers as they used to. So to get the same weight I need to go down to 400 spine , or go heavier on the broad head .
Has anybody shooting the old classic 500s switched to the new Centershots, if so what spine did you go with?
You may have better luck with the Easton Axis Traditional shafts. I think they're closer to the same as what you and I like.
Easton owns Beman, the new Beman Centershot is slightly larger diameter now then the old MFX.They use a H-insert and H-nock and they have lighter GPI.Easton has come out with a lot of new arrows they use an H-insert and H-nock size. They made the Centershot slightly larger as not to compete with the new Axis Traditional. The Axis Traditional still uses the HIT insert and X-nock same as all the old Axis/MFX.And the new Axis cost a bit more then the old MFX Classic's.The Axis Traditional is the closet to the MFX Classic at 8.9 GPI.The same as the old Beman Black Max,the Classic woodgrain would add .8 GPI.Both the new Axis Traditional and Beman Centershot come with 50-75 gr. HIT or 50-75 gr. H-insert with the shafts. How is your setup now,the new ones come with 50-75 gr. inserts.Say on a 30" arrow shaft the Axis Traditional is 24 grs lighter and the Centershot is 42 grs. lighter then the old MFX Classic. But they do come with heavier inserts, you may need to retune your arrows with the heavier inserts. If you didn't use heavier inserts in your MFX Classic's you can replace the brass inserts with aluminum inserts in either arrow.
That stinks, I guess. I used the 75 grain brass insert and the x nock( which always was a bit tight on every string of mine, even the lesser stringed FF from SBD.
I guess I'll try and stick to the axis and see how the 500 shoots., maybe it will be ok.
The axis trad is almost the same as the MFX. Use that as a replacement. Centershots aren't bad, just different. I like either but default to the Centershots for the price.
Thanks, do you think I'm safe getting the 500 axis, since I used the 500 s in the MFX Classic?
How do they keep the spine the same but lose almost 1 GPI?
9.7 MFX verses 8.9 axis , both 500 s
Well, talking with 3 rivers and kustom king archery, they recommend the 340 for my Hill bow, at 30 inch length. With the 75 grain insert and 125 gr tips.
What do you guys think?
The closest arrow I could find to the MFX Classics..size and weight wise, are FMJ's.
