Any body use the smokeys lures and rope wiks. This past season ? Pics ? Pros and cons. .
Yes. It works. Probably a lot of ways to do it.
What I did is put the wick in an area that was fairly easy for me to access, thus, avoid smelling up my area. I got photos of bucks within about 24 hours EVERY SINGLE TIME!
For sure it works it's a great thing ..gene wensel has a wicked wicks article up that's real good ...google it!
I always believed in smokeys deer lure since I used his preorbital lure on licking branches but never used the interdigital lure but gene took it to another level with the wicks!
I have always used it on licking branches and have had great trail cam pics and lots of visiting bucks but gene took it to the next level with the wicks!!
Thanks pred80 got mine at Denton hill last summer during there seminar. Interesting . Didn't have the time to really get into it ill start early this year going to get a trail cam this year any tips?
Use the hemp type rope aprox 3 to 4 feet off of ground make sure you use rope not with creosote or anything on it nylon rope works putt couple drops of smokeys preorbital lure on it and set camera nearby and also a deadly combination is use his interdigital lure in a mock scrape below and watch the camera activity always use rubber gloves...hope this helps but check out gene wensels wicked wicks article on experience!
Thanks pred80.
Not a prob I will try to get a pic with my rope wick in use with a nice buck that was nocturnal and I never saw him in daylight but he would visit almost everynightL
Here's the buck that always was curious to the wick ..gives ya setup idea but I lowered this one a little

Guys,
Can someone recommend a online source for the hemp rope without creosote? Thank you.
Rick
How about clothes line rope
I got mine at Lowes. Just make sure it is untreated.
Try any farm supply store.
I want to try this
Ive heard great things
Any natural fiber rope will work. Nylon probably won't retain scent as well as cotton or hemp. Old anchor rope from salt water areas works. So does used barn rope and cotton horse leads. If you find scented rope, lay it in the bed of a pickup truck for a few months before use. I have both part one and part two of my articles on our website with some photos. Hang the end closer to three feet than four feet and make it easily visible and rigid if possible. Actually you can hinge cut a horizontal branch, bend it down and get by with a 12" piece of rope zip tied to the end of the hanging branch.
Very cool...
Thanks for the info everyone. I will try the tractor supply near me.
Rick
I had tremendous luck early last spring into summer with it but the action DIED later on! Don't know why even though the bucks were still around for awhile till early bow season when they was poached. I know they was around because I'd seen them and had pics on actual trail setups that were checked as frequent as the wick ropes?
Thanks again for sharing this with everyone Gene!
I cut a small green branch about the diameter of an arrow shaft and attached it with small zip ties along the side of each Wick. Definitely gives it some rigidity which they seem to like better.

how far off the ground should they be?
I started about 5 feet and lowered it to about 4 feet later
Thanks for the reminder!!!

I put one out a few years ago and was amazed by the number of bucks that visited! I had around 500 pics of deer in the first month, and probably 80% were bucks. This was on the family farm in Kansas. I tried it here in Texas and didn't really get any decent response. I put out a couple of them again this year on the farm, hoping to get some pics later this week.
Here are a few pics from the last time I put them out.

I have been doing this since reading the article . I don't use rope just a small string like parachute cord or something similar. Just dunk the string in the bottle is all u need. Little bottle lasts the whole season .. Just saw my buddy after helping him get set up , and he was blown away. [attachment=1]
Trust me there is a string in there.[attachment=1]

Thanks beemann! I always have para cord in my pack, I'll give that a try this year
Bdann I have found that some places every deer that comes by is going to hit it . And then other spots they won't even look at it. Not sure the reasons.
This is one of those spots that they can't leave alone....[attachment=1]
Here is something you don't see everyday... [attachment=1][attachment=2]
