Title: Yet another arrow weight question
Post by: skidmark on February 10, 2014, 04:29:00 PM
Greetings all. I am getting ready for my first trad elk hunt and am curious if my arrows have sufficient weight for these big boys. My setup is as follows; Black Widow PSA V 53# @ 28" shooting 29" Axis Traditional 75 gr insert 125 Solid broadhead, weighs around 510 grains. I would appreciate your opinions.....thanks, Skid

Believe you set up quite capable capable doing the job. Do believe you have far more opportunity to enhance the lethality of you arrow.

Just my pick for a viable example...
Victory VForce HV350...~29"...100 gn insert...250 gn VPA terminator(or Penetrator)...~564 gn total...~29.6% EFOC.

A beating heart deserves our best.

That should do it.  Could bump up the point weight 25-50 grains without too much trouble.  I use the same arrow cut to the same length with a 28-inch draw out of a 56# ACS.  I put a 100 grain brass insert and 175 grain broadhead up front.

Being an old timer, I still hold to the old way of believing that the heavier the arrow, the better the penetration.

That will work just fine! If you go with more weight, make sure you check the tune and trim the shaft if necessary.

Put the arrow in the right place and you will be taking hero pics!
