I ordered 5" parabolic barred feathers. Actually put them on some arrows and didn't check to see if they will fit between the bow and string. Guess what, they won't. Do I just cut an inch off the back? Don't have a feather burner or cutter.
sounds like your brace height is low
Yes, what brace height do you have. That just doesn't sound right.
Give us some bow details, maybe we can help. I use 5 " all the time.
Either brace is too low or you're feathers are too far forward. I usually put my feathers on about 1-1 1/4" from the nock throat. I adjust as need so that the front of the feather is at the edge of the shelf-my built in brace height marker.
Bear Grizzly. Five inch feather would have to be all the way back and touching the nock.
Sounds like you need to twist up your string, brace height is too low. My Grizzly likes a brace around 8"...
All I use is 5" feathers.
Brace height is 6.25 inches.
Your brace height is too low as others above have mentioned.
The string already has a lot of twists. Could the string just be too short? It is the string that came with the bow. String measures around 56 inches.
What length Grizzly?
Yes, the string could be too long, not too short. There's no guarantee that the person who had the bow before you had the correct string length on it. What's the brand and length of the bow? Recurve? Longbow? Selfbow?
Pictures if possible would greatly help diagnose the problem.
Where are you at in WV? Maybe if one of us WV boys are close to you we could take a look.
Guessing string is too long. There are grizzlys that are not 58" but the majority are. What is marked on your bow? My Grizzlys were not happy with a BH under 8"
I bought the bow new at Cabelas in Charleston this summer. Bow is 58". I measured the string and it is 56". Recommended string length is 54". I think the wrong string was put on it at Cabelas when the got it. I know I should have checked all this stuff when I bought it but I didn't.
Yes sir, you definitely either need to do smoe serious twisting or pick up a 54" string. That along with proper brace height should fix your issue.
es you need a string 54" 53.5" to get you grizzly set at 8.5"bh 6.5"bh is way to low. Then your 5" feather will be perfect. Is it an endless loop or Flemish string? if its a Flemish you might be able to redo one end and shorten the string.

Times 100 what they said
I'm not all that surprised. Some few years ago a young man showed up at one of our shoots with his grandpa's old Bear Recurve. He'd stopped at an "archery shop", you know the kind. All wheel bows and a small section on a shelf with some trad stuff. They sold him a string and no one there knew beans about trad. The damn string was so long there was absolutely no preload on it. You literally slid the top loop about a half inch to brace it. We tried to lead him straight on it but he actually told us he had gone to a Pro and that it was right. What can you do ?
Yep. I didn't see your second post indicating it was a Bear Grizzly. That brace height should be in the neighborhood of 8 inches. Your string is way too long, as others have pointed out.
