Meet Molly - my new Mountain Hound. Just got home from an all day road trip to meet up with the breeder and pick her up. Had to drive through a blizzard on the way back and she is just getting acclimated and barking at my other dog.
Mid-Michigan bow hunters I will keep you posted on her progress and look forward to tracking some whitetails this fall. These are pics the breeder sent me and all I have so far but more to follow soon. She is sleeping in my lap right now.
Great little dog.
Good looking dog.
I'll be anxious to see how she does for you!
They are suppose to be special but I am green to the tracking dog thing. I do have hides and blood in the freezer and have been researching and planning for a long time. We will see
That's a beautiful dog! I've never heard of that breed, I'll have to learn about them. Congratulations!
Google it - they are really rare in the states but renowned for there tracking skills in Europe.
Is Molly going to grow into her feet....lol....she is beautiful!
Absolutely gorgeous!!
That's a sharp looking pup. I have heard nothing but good things about them. Have fun.
Very nice looking pup-Hap
Nice looking pup. He sure has a big set of paws. If you want a good book to read on the subject check out Tracking Dogs for finding wounded deer by John Jeanneney
Great looking pup ;)
Those are some serious paws. Nice pup.

Jerry Russell has one.
That's a good looking dog right there! Mine is just a mutt but I've had a lot of fun using her blood tracking. Bet you have a good one there!
Jerry helped me find her and she is already growing into those paws. Those pics are couple weeks ago and she is getting longer and leaner.
Beautiful girl!

here she is this morning - and already growing into her feet. kind of looks like a big Dachshund at this point. If she is 1/2 as good a tracking as she is a lover I will be more than pleased. She likes to have her head in your lap all the time. This is kind of breed specific as they are known to be Velcro dogs with their leader but I am sure as her confidence grows she will get a little more independent(I hope) I am used to the dog on the other end of the couch ignoring me :)
Great Looking Dog!
Good looking dog. How big will she get? Don't think your other dog likes having his picture taken.
That's a beautiful hound Bobby. Best of luck with her. I bought a wire haired dachshund this past December and have been working with her. Hope by next season she will be ready to find some deer. Good luck and keep us updated!

Molly should max out between 35-45lbs for a female 45 is the high end but about perfect for a dog size. Aussie - the mix on the other end of the couch hates having his photo taken - almost funny how he avoids it. That and he has been rolling his eyes at me and the new pup almost to say, "Oh, great, a new puppy around here". He is great with dogs and will be a big asset in teaching the hierarchy and has already taught her to use the doggy door.
She was a little intimidated and barked at him last night but this morning they are becoming pals.
On the couch with a pillow... :biglaugh: ..perfect!
Cool Bobby, I've been researching tracking dogs a few years now and would like a teckel. I have a book on tracking. Let me know if you want help teaching her to track, I would love to help lay tracks with you.
Terry
German hunters are required to own or have access to a certified tracking dog, so I saw a lot of them over there. Many are versatile dogs, but your dog's breed was pretty much recognized as the ultimate pure tracking dog. Bet she is going to love working a track.
Beautiful dog!
Thanks Terry - having some new territory and different tracking conditions will be a huge asset for her this spring/summer and if we don't get together at least please keep Molly in mind when you stick one this fall. Even a Dbl lunger that you see fall over is a great opportunity for her to learn and certainly if you have a tough track - back out and give me a call. Please. Best for you and the deer if Molly and I are available.
I looked at Teckels and was kind of holding out because my current dog is getting old and wanted to give him a ton of QT in the time we have left but this was just to good an opportunity to pass. Aussie will probably live to 18 now but that would just be a bonus - he is my best friend.
It's good to see you have no intention of spoiling her by acclimating her to harsh conditions early on :-)
She is a good looking pup, Bobby!
Gotta love a dog with a job.
Bill
What a handsome dog. Just went on my mental list of potential breeds to consider when my old boy passes on in a couple years. I'm Bavarian by blood so it would be a bonus.
Man she is a beauty Bobby. That attachment that she has for you will only get stronger and stronger. These dogs form a bond stronger than anything I have ever seen. My Bavarian pup (Molly's brother) "Bear" is doing one of two things every day. Tracking or trying to get to a point where he can be next to me. You can sure see the resemblance between them.
Congratulations again on such a beautiful pup.
Here is my Bear in a rare Georgia snow.

I actually saw one of these for the first time at the Hunting time expo in Grand Rapids a couple of weeks ago. There was a very nice looking lady parading her around the show , so I went over to see what kind of dog it was . Good luck with yer pooch.
Pretty neat looking Dogs!
Jerry - I cannot say thank you enough for the help tracking down this tracking hound. She is a gem. In 24hrs she has settled in rather nicely and has not had any accidents or issues beyond a little separation anxiety if I am not in the room and that is getting better by the minute. I can actually go to the bathroom or kitchen w/o her chasing me each time now. Molly is warming up to Aussie real well and soon they will be best pals. I am grateful to have his calm demeanor to help teach her the ropes around here and she follows him through the doggy door just fine. Zero accidents in the house and I believe if we continue to "all" go outside and pee together for a few more days she will have that completely understood on her own. My biggest worry is her desire to chew - partly pup and partly breed. So far, so good but I do not trust her yet when I leave the house so she gets crated. I put a cam on her yesterday when I left to coach kids wrestling(another volunteer thing I do) and she did fine but I am sure she barked and howled a lot while I was gone. Later this week when it warms to a balmy 25+ I will leave the two of them in the basement with a doggy door to the 70x20 pen and see how that goes. As soon as she is calm down there I will start testing with free reign of the house. This has worked well in the past with all my dogs and having a veteran to coach her is always nice. In a week or so I plan to start laying some lines and testing her nose - I cannot wait for some of this snow to melt and get her on some longer lines and get back into the woods more. For now with two feet and drifts past three feet it is a challenge just taking a walk. This is going to be so much fun.
Good looking dog... Luv the ears....
Sweet pup! Good luck!
You will be amazed how much she is going to teach you. Bet there won't be many lost deer in your area.
Ron
Very nice good luck . I tryed to get my chocolate lab to track when he was young .but the only thing he was good at was tracking cheese burgers. Lol.
beautiful dog-- take your time in training--
a little bit each day - or when ever you can.
To many people push to much, remember she is just a pup.Let her be a pup --
Bad experiences leave an imprint that may last forever. Remember to socialize her, bring her to a mall, exposure to kids, noise, car, crait -
Sounds like she has a good temperment -
Good luck-- make it fun - time passes quickly so enjoy--

FYI - if you are a member here and in the Ingham/Clinton/Livingston county region and have a tough track this fall - or any track if you can be patient. Please contact Molly and I. I will be working her all summer and by October she will be a 1yr old with a need for experience. I cannot promise we will be waiting by the phone but if we are available the service will be free and will help her with real life experience.
Just want to give her some real time tracking and offer it to other trad guys here.
I will be updating her progress as we go.
That is very nice of you Bob. It will be great experience for Molly. We have a shortage of quality tracking dogs in Georgia. If you have one with a strong reputation you can get as many as 4-6 calls per night for tracking help.
Great looking dog Bobby!
Best of luck with her.
Back in the early nineties, I had a Basset that accidentally turned into a bloodtrailer...not even legal back then.
I learned a TON from that dog.
Word spread around town about my dog, and it wasn`t long and I (we) were busy many evenings during October and November.
Drove my new bride crazy. :D
The term "when in doubt, back out" will be proven time and again with the help of the dog.
Heartfelt congrats...she is destined to live a good life with you.
