I am still new to footed carbons, having only built half a dozen of them so far. I use a very long (19'') footing to add spine to my arrows, as well as keep the carbon from mushrooming on me when I go stumping.
I have had problems with glue failure. I use epoxy applied to the front and back ends of the footing for about 4 inches each.
I didn't sand the carbon before I glued it, so maybe that is the problem. I also wonder if the footing is a little too loose. The 2117 I am using seems like it might be too loose on the Easton Bloodline 330. I ordered some Aftermath 300's which are slightly bigger in diameter so they should give me a tighter fit.
If anyone has advice on how to get a really good footing bond then I would really appreciate it.

The Goop sounds intriguing! I like the idea of softer glue, it won't change my spine as much as epoxy does. I'm really curious to see how they perform!
Bendotwood, for starters, if you need a 19" footing to get the proper spine for your arrows, I would seriously consider getting some different shafts.
With a properly spined shaft and the correct diameter footing, you only need 1" to 1 1/2" long footing. Use a chamfer tool like you would use for reloading rifle shells to chamfer both ends of the footing. Makes a much better job and will pull out of the targets easier.
I do sand my shafts lightly and then clean them and the footing really well with alcohol or acetone. Use a slow set epoxy to glue the footing on and let it cure for 24 hours. The slow set epoxies are typically stronger than the fast set epoxies. I use J B Weld.
That's how I foot my carbon shafts and have had good service from them. Good luck and shoot safely.
I didn't plan to make then that long when I designed my arrows. I figured a 330 spine would be enough, but it wasn't. I have ordered some stiffer shafts since then. My problem is I have a 300gr point and a 75gr insert. Really weakens the dynamic spine. Maybe I should just get some Grizzly Stik Momentum 175's and be done with it...

I went out and tried the Goop and it "DIDN'T" perform as I expected..This is one of the first things that it didn't take well so keep with the epoxy cause I know it works for me...
I'm sorry I had your hopes up for the goop and anyone else that may have read my first two posts but my test shaft failed the test and so did the field point that I glued into the insert with goop...Forgive me Ben :o

I bought a basic fast drying 2 ton epoxy and only one footing ever came loose with it.
I use golf club epoxy on all my arrow stuff, nothing more impact resistant that I've found.
it worked for years on the clubs I build so tried it for archery.
use the 24hr. stuff from golf smith or maltby's.
good old jb weld works well the 24 hr stuff is really strong works with inserts as well
bendotwood, here is a good tolerance fit, for diameter differences:
.0073 perfect
.0052 too tight
.0129 too sloppy
JB Weld is what I have used and have had 0 issues.
I think you're getting false readings with your tuning. sometimes that happens when the wrong tune is taken to the extreme. with either of the 2 bows in your signature a 330 should be too stiff, and the footing will only make it worse.
I shoot a 52@29 dryad ILF- 400 axis w/250 up front and no footing.
I just saw how heavy your points are.
most people change point weight instead of buying new arrows. it works out to be a lot cheaper. :)
You could drop 100gr and still have plenty of FOC.
I still think your arrows are too stiff set up how they are, especially with the 19" footing
For footing I found Iron insert works and if you're carefull is heat reversable
I took some measurements today and I think the problem is that there is too much of a gap between the footing and the shaft.
