I finally got this little project finished, been so busy it took a good month to get thru!!
Some of you have seen some of this video in a thread I had going last fall....but then it was un-edited, long and admittedly kinda boring at times.
This was my first year self filming our/my hunts. I always knew it wouldn't be easy....guess what. I was right!
Not easy but very rewarding in the end when you can go back a see the memories you have forever captured on film.
My equipment was limited by myself, one, because I wanted small light gear that wouldn't be a pain to haul around, and, two, because of my limited budget.....so by most standards, I used very low end gear!!
The cameras, tripods, and low budget tree arm worked out good in that they were easy to carry in my pack.....but I definitely see a lot of room for improvement.
Filming was fun, challenging, and rewarding....but.....on the other side sometimes a pain. And sometimes I felt as if it took away from the experience because my focus was split on both getting stuff on film, and either trying to get something killed, or helping Cade out when things got exciting.
Another thing.....I have a new respect for the guys editing "good" hunting videos!!! It is truly and art form and to do it right, can get very expensive!
Again, because of my low budget, I used a very frustrating at times free editing site. Ok, but I can see a lot of room for improvement. I liked doing it though...
Also I didn't want to spend any cash on music, so I used free music I found on-line.
All in all, I'm looking forward to a lot more, upgrading my equipment, and educating myself more on everything about capturing hunts on video!
So here is the fall 2013 season that Cade and I had. First the preparation, then into the hunting.
Please let me know what you think...
(seems to play best at 720p HD...click on the gear on the bottom of the you tube screen and change to 720)

Very nice, I like the coverage of everything from the preparation to the  :campfire: hunt!
WOW...that's some great work you've done with that footage!
Really have to comment on the slow mo pieces with voice overs from other scenes...very well done! And btw...keep using the budget equipment as it's working great!
Thanks for sharing..you're one heck of a bowhunter and father!!
Pretty awesome to be able to film and hunt at the same time. Nice work!
Very enjoyable video Curt!
For what it's worth I liked the music and quiet talking it was as if you let the film tell the story. I liked the different perspectives ie truck filming, walking in and out with gear... it added to the story aspect the film it self told. I can appreciate the time capturing these moments takes when self filming but it added a lot for me.
It's a very interesting media way to tell a story. Creativity and time investment seems potentially endless. I'm sure you had to learn a lot to create what you did... well done sir!
Great job!!!
That's some great memories imortalized :)
Very nice. You had a good year.
Fantastic really enjoyed it shows what hunting is about !
Nice job. There's one scene were the leaves are falling... I could watch that all day, that's heaven for me.
I've been thinking about taping my hunts. I wish Go Pro made a camera with a zoom and a feature that focused on movement. Then you could just wear it on your head like a headlamp and it would film where you were looking. Thanks for sharing.
Nice job Kurt and way to show cade the ways of a bow hunter!!

That's the way hunting videos should be
Well done Curt! I wouldn't change a thing.
Awesome video! I also was trying to film some of my hunts this year but had absolutely no action, so needless to say no footage. I was more trying to get some good individual footage and not so much a montage of footage leading up to a conclusion like you did which I've got to say was well edited, and was great!
You've inspired me to give it a shot (no pun intended) and who knows, maybe I as well can have a great conclusion. Just out of curiosity what program do you use to edit? I use Pinnacle Studio 14, although at times it can be a pain to use as well but it does have some music already in the program you can use as background music like the song in the intro of the video on my page about the bare-shaft tuning.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Great job Curt! Looks like you and Cade had a good season!
Nice Curt!! God choice of music to accompany the vid!!
Great video, thanks for sharing. And what owlgrowler said about the scene with the leaves falling; x2
Great videos Curt! Amazing how much Cade has grown since the last time I saw him.
That's awesome Curt! Thanks a lot.

Very nice video Curt . I am sure it much time and effort to edit. It has to be a challenge to shoot video and hunt at the same time.
Wow, I really enjoyed that. Congratulations on a fantastic 2013 season.
Very well done, Sir! Kudos to you both! I can't wait until my sons are old enough to bow hunt by my side! Great videos!
Buddy
Thank you curt I really enjoyed it. I liked that you included the whole season from early prep to taking down your stand at the end ( that always makes me kinda sad). You and Cade make a great team!
As Lawrence Welk use to say Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful... :clapper: :clapper:
What a year, I really enjoyed the videos
Well, the important thing is that you're having fun and the young man (your son?)is getting a good start.
The quality on that video is good enough. You don't need to put any more effort into it. Otherwise you will just get to a point where the effort is not worth the return.
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. That was awesome!!!
Nice job!!! I can tell you put a lot of work into this and it turned out great..thanks for sharing!
Great job Curt and Cade!
That was fun to watch, thanks for sharing!
well done.
You did a great job on the videos. Really enjoyed them.
Great Videos Curt. You did well! Congrats on a successful season!
Very well done. A lot harder than it looks, you're a natural!
Great job, what a season for you and Cade. Thanks for taking us along.
Fantastic bud! Awesome job but you've always been good with the cameras. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to put it all together.
Looking forward to next year already :bigsmyl:
Tracy
Very well done!
Very nice buddy! I've always wanted to do this, but by yourself it can be a pain. Well done!!
Very nice, certainly did not look low budget to me. What a great time capsule for you and Cade.
Your a great dad
Thanx everyone for the kind words!! I honestly didn't know what expect, I hesitated for a few day to post....I mean I liked it....but didn't know if I was bias since it was my footage.
But I know I'm my own worse critic....anyway....thanx!!!
Now that it's finished I see a hundred things I would change and try to differently or in my head better!
I not only really enjoyed getting the footage, I really, really enjoyed the editing process.
Someone asked in a post what editor I used....I used Openshot because I don't use Windows...Rob has set me up with Linux on my computers.
Enjoyed the videos very much!
Well done Curt!

Very classy Curt, excellent job!!
Really enjoyed it Curt, loved the changing of the season and the time you spent with Cade. That last scene with the deer beds all around your stand is the way my season ha been plenty of signs but no deer nor shots. My only improvement area would be in the sound department...As I'm hard of hearing now and it was real difficult to understand what you were saying...what that you say?
Good job bud! What great memories made with your son. That's what it's all about.
Curt, you showed everyone what hunting is all about.
A father teaching his son the right way to hunt.
Keep it up that was a great.
Thanks for sharing You and Cade year.
Randy
I would have bought that outright over any high budget hunting film. Not because I know who you are from this forum, but because it was both classy and real.
The music selection was excellent, the still photos were well placed and you really incorporated the emotion and feeling of the hunt.
It showed the great shots and the ones that were not as good. This is important because people have come to believe deer hunting is too easy. They see the commercial based hunts where only the successes are shown and believe it is a lazy man's game.
Well done and thank you for sharing it for free. It is far and away the classiest hunting video I have seen and I honestly would have paid for it.
Thanks again,
Charlie
Great work Curt! Thanks for sharing.
Darren
These have now in my top ten favorite videos

Great video Curt, thanks for sharing.
Awesome video!!
You can never get enough footage. Getting a good subject is tough as well. You never know when the big buck or long beard will present. Nicely done, good luck in your future hunts. Mike
I really enjoyed watching those video Curt! Editing is an art and you definitely have an eye and ear for it. To me, the mark of a good film, or any form of story telling, is it's ability to evoke emotion. You videos we actually quite moving... The music, slow motion and just your edit points were really great. I've done enough editing over the years to know that you spent a LOT of time on that!! Nice work and thanks for sharing it!!
Great video's Curt. I echo Tsalt's comment you put a LOT of time into editing that from the raw footage and you did it very well. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Great video! Great season! And nice deer!
Great stuff Curt
Bill
Great videos!!!
You done good Curt! Loved it!!
A lot work! You've got a great record for your family and friends to enjoy, forever. That was fun, thanks for putting it together
Rusty

Great stuff! Wouldn't have expected any less. Great season congrats to both you and Cade.
I thought it was excellent. Thanks for taking us along.

Awesome video, Curt! You've got me charging a five year old battery and an old worn out camcorder coming to life :) Nice job!!!
Great video!!!
Thanks for sharing.
You're right, shooting is fun, filming as well, and you want to do both as good as possible...
I loved it! The best part for me was seeing your son out there with you. You did an awesome job editing.
Well done. I think this is worthy of submission to the Outdoor Channel, They should have a spot for amateur video, even though this did look professional. The area you hunt is beautiful.
Wow!!! you just made me buy a camera. What is the main camera that you use?
Tom
Tom, Answered your e mail this morning bud.
So glad to see I've inspired others with my meager effort :notworthy:
Nice job I could watch it over and over but you guys are the best
Curt thank you so much , being from england & not being able to hunt here watching you & cade practiceing & hunting together makes its easyer to save for my hunting trips abroad. Thanks
