On most recurves the string will fit nicely with little tension.
I would not trust doing this on a longbow.
And never on a wood bow.
Are you sure you're not looking at a reverse handled bow like a JD Berry Morning Star? I can't imagine even being able to string a longbow backwards with actual tension on it the way the string nocks are cut...
