Title: played with the chrono today
Post by: larry on February 03, 2014, 09:11:00 PM
nothing scientific just me and a few bows down in the basement;

Bow#1 58" Centaur Carbon Elite with Xtl. 45 at 27" set up for hunting

Bow#2 60" Sasquatch TD longbow triple carbon and foam limbs 46 at 27" set up for hunting

Bow#3 60" Sasquatch SS recurve 43# at 27" still needs string silencers

I shot two different weight arrows; arrow #1 410 grains. Arrow #2 551 grains.

The SS shot the 410 grain arrow 3fps faster than the Centaur and the TD longbow shot the 410 grain arrow 4fps faster than the Centaur.

The SS shot the 551 grain arrow 4fps faster than the Centaur and the TD longbow shot the 551 grain arrow 5fps faster than the Centaur.

All three of these bows are excellent shooters, stable and very quick. It's hard to pick a favorite out of them. and there you have it!

Larry, The way you shoot, who cares about speed?  the arrow always seems to find its mark   :readit:    ;)

It sure is fun to play though!

Impressive, cause I know how quick those Centaurs are.

So if the weights of the bows where equalled the SS would most likely be the fastest. I have an SS and it is very quiet. Curious what you would say in comparison but bet they are all equally quiet.

Looks like some beauties as well!!

Hard to say which one is the quietest. Both the Centaur and the Bigfoot TD longbow are quiet, but they have different sounds. I will say that this carbon elite with the xtl laminate is the first one I've had with the xtl, and also the quietest elite I've owned. Don't have any string silencers on the SS yet, I imagine they will slow it down a bit, but at this point I can't say how quiet the SS is.

Did I miss the actual speeds somewhere?

Thanks for the comparison Larry. I also stopped posting the actual speed numbers as it only causes problems.

Why the limb savers on the Sasquatch longbow? Mine is the quietest and no hand shock bow I own.

My question was directed to the original poster who presented comparisons.

Please do not derail my question to serve your own needs.

cloudbaseracer, I didn't post the speeds because for one my chrono's about 15 years old, never had it calibrated, but it is still perfectly fine to compare bows being shot side by side.  and the other thing is, two guys can shoot the same bow with the same draw length and have two different speeds, and on and on.

katman, I put the limbsavers on there because those triple carbon and foam limbs had that high pitched carbony sound to them, and the limb savers got rid of it. And you're right, this Sasquatch longbow is totally dead in the hand, aside from Jim Neave's original double carbons, this bow is without a doubt the most dead in the hand wood risered bow I have ever shot.

cloudbaseracer, sorry if I ruffled your feathers but the actual speed numbers were not posted if you read it so how could you miss it. I stated MY reason why I do not posts speeds, nothing more.

Thanks for the update Larry, makes good sense. Great looking bows, Kirk needs to get back from vacation and back to building, can not wait for my ss.

Yeah I never post actual speeds either-not relevant to a comparison such as Larry did here.
Nice job Larry.
