what is the best and how do keep it from getting stolen...

I like the Coverts, with the Cam-lock box, and Python Cable lock.

I only use mine on private property... generally my neighbors property or family property. So far, so good.

There was a thread on this site recently about someone hunting from a tree stand and catching others coming after his trail cameras with bolt cutters in hand.

I would think it would be very hard to do anything to stop a determined thief.

I like the Spypoint cameras, good cameras and will not break the bank. I use the bear boxes and locks but if someone really wants your camera they will get it, even on private property.

I have only used trail cams on private property. Best way to avoid theft IMO is to mount them about 8' off the ground. This puts them out of standard eyesight. My favorite cam was the Cuddeback Capture flash. No longer made though.

My best trailcam is the Lil Acorn...have had it over 3 years and still going strong without a single hiccup.  

I also mount mine out of reach in a tree, especially during hunting season.

I just went check one of my cameras that has been out a month on public land. Fresh boot tracks right by it but the camera was still there. I was thinking how did they not see this camera? Well they did see it, they took the SD card and turned the camera off. How nice that they didn't steal it but I lost a months worth of pictures grrrrr

If you put them up high (above 6 or seven feet) and angle them down, that helps to keep people from seeing them.  Consequently, it also seems to keep deer from being spooked by them in my experience.

problem is, if a thief wants it, hes gonna get it. unfortunately its the way of the world.

I haven't got a ton of experience with trail cams, but what I have seen is some of the cheapos work just fine. that Wildview makes em real cheap and seem to work well for the money..

Ive had 4 stolen.  2 in KS on public land.  2 in PA on state land.
