First try at dyeing feathers, learned a lot, not very difficult.

Those are bright and turned out great.
Both are great but I just love those yellows...What method did you do if you don't mind me asking?
Cool, look great. I also dig the yellows.
Thanks guys. Keefer,I used Veniard dyes, Yellow and Pink Fluorescent. Followed there included instructions, heat water to simmer add dye stir well, add vinegar then feathers and keep them moving with water at simmer. Length of time determines tone. Yellow took about 3 times longer than the pink.
Next time I will cut back on the pink pigment a little and shorten time to lighten it up. Very satisfied with the yellow.
Nice job Gery , those look great
Thanks Drew, pretty cold up there eh? sure is down here.
Forgot to add in instructions to de-oil feathers by swishing in warm water and couple drops of dawn then rinse.
Very nice. Love those yellow ones.
Second try at pink, diluted mixture and cut soak time way down to 15-20 seconds, much better. Now to fletch some up and see how they look in flight. :archer2:

Very cool. I have been looking at the Venaird Dye's for a while, just haven't tried them yet.

Nice job! Those should have great visibility!!
The second batch of pink look great!
Yeah she's cold up here but I'm headed south , very nice on the pink ones bet they will look great in a nice tight cluster on the target.
They sure look nice. Where did you get the Veniard dye?
Jack
I've been using them with great success also. Seems like I bought it from a dealer in Canada. Here is their site....http://www.veniard.com/contact.asp
are you starting with naturally barred feathers? May i ask if it is "worth" it to do this yourself?(aside from self accomplishment)
I am wanting to try to process my own feathers due to the cost of feathers. I find it unreal that it cost $20 for enough feathers for a dozen arrows.
Thanks David I will check them out. Are you going to Cincy?
Jack
Pm'd you jack, were I got it is not a sponsor here. Mine were $15.44 shipped for the two colors.
DanielB89, bough the natural turkey feathers from Magnus at turkey flite traditional a sponsor here in sponsors classifieds, http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=162;t=000042
will pm you link to vendor Daniel.
Well worth it for the looks are very good and better visibility to the fletch, very easy to do, took all of 20 minutes including cleanup. Stored the liquid in glass jars for next time. Should have enough dye for more feathers than I will ever use.
DanielB89, if you send magnus both wings he will prepare one for you and keep the other even trade. My next turkey wings are going to him, come on spring.
Gery I didn't get your PM.
Jack

Oftentimes, I use natural barred feathers or a combination of natural barred and dyed natural barred for all three/four 5 1/4" fletches. $20.00 would be cheap.
PM's sent Jack and trap
Thanks Brother
Got it, Thanks.
