Picked up a piece of koa while on vacation in Hawaii. Now I need to decide what woods to go with it. Any suggestions and pics?

Chechen...which is also called Caribbean Rosewood goes beautifully with Hawaiian Koa. So does Santos or Bolivian Rosewood.
I saw some furniture made with Koa and Purpleheart when we were on the big island some years ago. The furniture was all custom stuff and very well finished. I have some Koa that someday I would like to mate with the Purpleheart for a riser. Maybe flamed bamboo veneers for the limbs.
Yup, Koa and Cocobolo, that Shrew that Izzy had now lives in Michigan. Took her down to Gregg and put her on a little diet, not as heavy now as she was when she lived with Izzy but still a real beauty :)
Mike will have lots of stuff for you to look at. Let me know what you decide.
Steve O that's a beautiful TT !!!
I'm having a Silvertip done with cocobolo riser and koa limbs right now. I've also seen koa with macassar and shedua, they looked nice too.
Glenn - How about Brazillian Rosewood as an accent in the riser with Koa and rosewood separation stripes? Limbs could incorporate curly Koa veneers. I just happen to have curly Koa in stock.

You're the man, Mike:) But Suzie is still the boss!
Keith - You have heard the old expression "If a tree falls in the forrest..." My version is "If I say something and Susie is not there to hear it, am I still wrong."

I'm of the thought that since Koa has depth and iridecence in it, so should the wood that's gonna be matched w/ it. Curly maple if you want contrast, maybe walnut/curly burl if you want complimentary .
gaboon ebony with cocobolo flare riser and koa limbs.

My new Tip will be macassar ebony with figured koa flare and figured koa limbs.
Dark cocobolo looks awesome with Koa!

I have an Eaglewing with Koa, Purpleheart, and Bacote laminations on the limbs. It's really a looker!
