I made some new rabbit heads to try this year for rabbits out of some old 4 blade broadheads from the 70s. They were very brittle so in working with them different parts broke off so I made the most out of the situation and created different heads. I've found most lost rabbits occurred with the head not staying into the rabbit's body and I've seen that with blunts and modern claw type heads. These should. Opinions welcomed.
Top is a blunt with flanges bent out in the rear. Next is 2 blade with a handsawn pointed washer behind it. Third is a 4 blade with the back broken off to create barbs. Fourth is a straight 4 blade with blunt tip.

#3 is going to be an icky mess to extract from a bunny.
I used the 'ol Tiger Claws (before Barta took over the design) and they snagged a lot of things that ought best be left to stay inside a bunny until you're ready to be dealing with them. Effective, though.
#1 is like the GameNabber head. I have had good luck with those and usually carry two of them (or the Ace Hex) as my blunts when deer hunting. If an attractive stump runs along they are suitable for those as well.
#2 looks like a killer.
Those will get the job done.
I was thinking if #3 punches through a rabbit, and it should, I can just unscrew it and pull out the shaft.
Ah. Them new fangled kind.
#3 looks the coolest and deadliest.
I made a similar game head out of an old Tusker broadhead that I filed down the tip flat and heavily serrated.
Great looking heads they should work well. I made some rabbit salad today turned out well.

Yeah but you and I both know in the heat of the hunt I'm going to yank it out and create an icky mess.
I started off trying to make them all like #4 but when pieces started snapping off in the grinding process they all became a little different.
I have noticed that barbed heads tend to snag on brush and the arrow gets pulled all the way through. I like a 357 case or similar style blunt with a lot of feather o hang up.
I made one of those from one my hand forged heads...when I missed and nailed a New England rock wall :) tippit
Good for you "doing it yourself"! Nice!
Rabbits don't take much killing.....I have settled on plain old blunts, or Ace Hex Head blunts.
Pro tip....you want the arrow to stay in the rabbit, so he can't get down a hole ;)
Hey guys just fyi a 30-30 shell cut at the very top right under the neck with a tubing cutter grains out on my scale at 124 and slides on an 11/32 wood shaft great you may have to open up the cut end of the casing since tubing cutters tend to pinch when they cut but these make good blunts for the 125 grain shooters.
