I looked around and couldn't find a thread already started, so thought I'd get it started. I'm sure all you guys in the midwest and back east are buried in snow, but you'll be scouring the woods before long.
I've gone out a couple times and found some from last year...

Great sheds Ron! Love it when there hanging in the trees like that unless the tree rats find them first. I will get out around the first of February and start looking missed last season because of my accident so there should be a few extras out there. Good luck!!!
Tracy
Sweet I'll be starting soon.
You find some good ones Ron :)
I don't find much here in nj. I think the bucks bury them so they don't give away there location!
Nice pictures
I've only been out once, but found this small 4 point. Should have more time in the evenings starting next week !

I find about 1 every couple years.
Tree Killer, you always seem to find some good ones. I love the looks of the black tail antlers.
Welcome Back Tracey, Good luck!

Shed hunting a few years back a game warden stopped me said what are you doing . Told him shed hunting he had no clue ! After I told him hi told me that was illegal ! But you can pic flowers and stuff . My hippie days are over ! Ahh New Jersey. Illegal to stump shoot. But I still do both. If I go to jail can you guys bail me out lol.
Nice sheds guys, hope there's many more in your future!

It's illegal to hike around and pick up discarded bones? :saywhat:
Already finding sheds? Deer season is still open in Alabama and I have seen bucks still with racks well into March.
Tree killer yep that's what they told me ? Can't figure that one out . Any body from nj. Run into that one ?
It's illegal to pick them up of state owned ground in SD. The law reads you can't remove any naturally occurring thing from the land. If they wanted to they could write you a two hundred dollar ticket for picking a blade of grass to chew on. Only thing our state ground is good for is out of state pheasant hunters and my money goes to pay for it. Not a good subject with me.
Thanks 4point. Crazy Laws
Found this one a couple days ago. Checked cameras today and it looks like most in our area are still carrying their horns.

Mach and april here in South Texas
Anybody can find the big bones, but it takes real talent to spot the tiny tine! 2" blacktail shed, the smallest I've ever found.

How many inches did that one score Tree Killer?
Your eyes are better than mine!
Ron, you can make a key chain tooth pick of that one.
Great Eyes!
2 5/8" P&Y Hermon.
That's what my son said when I sent him the pic this morning...drill a hole and put it on my keychain.
Went out last week and most of the bucks I saw were still carrying on my farm.
Ron, that looks like what was on the first blacktail I shot with a bow...haha We were both just youngens.
Nice thread. Tree killer - just let him grow man :D
Great thread keep em coming guys!
What were you doing, crawling around on your hands and knees Ron?
That little one is the neatest thing I ever saw....  :notworthy:
Man I can;t agree more. That tiny shed is hilarious.
I found a nice (in my mind) 8 pointers shed today. one was practically stacked on the other. Good day for me and good day for my dogs who now have toys.
Neck knife handle :bigsmyl:
Heard of a few people finding them here in central Wisconsin---we've got tons of snow here though and it's been cold, cold, cold, so it's been pretty tough. Can't wait to get out!

Did you know it was a buck Snag, those little studs almost resemble a yearling doe at a distance.

Gotta get the proper angle sometimes Ted, and the sun makes those babies stick out like a sore thumb!

I'm trying to show that I've been an avid shed hunter for the last three years.
I love the exercise in the spring. And I'm the eternal optimist; I always think my next shed is just around the next corner.
It's just a bit early here in MO (a few are on the ground), but I can't wait. I've been out once, but I've not found anything this year, yet!
If that's just 3 years your doing real well....
I've walked... A LOT! I walk public and private ground any free Saturday from mid February to spring turkey season.
Looks like you have some nice antlers in your collection Brad!
Thanks. It's like a grown-up Easter egg hunt. Plus it's a form of scouting for the next year.
My eye has yet to be keen enough to find anything shorter than 6 inches though. :notworthy:

Dude!!
I hate you Midwestern guys :bigsmyl:
Very nice buck shed Brad!
Got out Friday, but never found anything. Got 2 feet of snow, and it's just melting back to where I can hike around.
Nice one......

Ron, at 10yds I could tell. I'm not one to shoot first and think later. ;)
One of these days the foot of snow that's in the woods will melt and I can look for some sheds too! :banghead:
Walking in the snow is great for exercise... not so much for finding sheds.

I was in the woods for 4 hours yesterday. I just HAD to get out of the house. It wore me out. After about 2 hours I realized maybe it was a mistake to go out, but I was about 2 miles from the truck :knothead:
You need snowshoes around my place to walk in the woods. Snow depth up to your crotch in most places. April before you will see a shed on the ground.
here are my 2014 sheds so far

I have shown these before....I have a set from 2010 that are so spectacular that I had them mounted on a cape...world class... I like to share the pic from time to time...they score 210 and I include my good friend holding them to give perspective...this monarch died a year or so later by way of being struck by a vehicle...I saw him before he was killed a year after these sheds and he had broken his right antler off about 8 inches from the base while in velvet,,,looked for those sheds but no luck..he lived in and hung out in an area that was 9 square miles so tough to pattern...

WOW WHAT A DANDY!!
Very cool!
So sad a great buck like that has to be killed by a car /truck . Not a good way to go ! Lets get rid of all cars ! What say you PETA ?

First shed of the year!
Dang. Nice shed.. still heavy snow here in Ohio. I have been out twice but I imagine once it starts to melt I will find a few. march is a good month.
Way to much snow here, went out today on snowshoes and put my pole in right to the grip. It will be a few weeks at least.
The family and I were heading back home from KC at dusk the other night and we saw a couple herds of deer just north of the city... bunches of bucks with antlers still on.... I mean alot of them! I have never seen so many bucks in groups like that around here. Anyway, with that many still sporting their headgear, I think that I will wait a couple more weeks....
With Coach Brad finding his, I might have to sneak out this week!
Congrats!
Rodd
I can;t figure the times they drop...it varies every year...love looking...each one regardless of size is a treasure...good exercise too
I found a shed the day after gun deer season ended when my daughter and I were rabbit hunting. A week later I killed a deer with my recurve that had what looked like tumers on his legs. The DNR said the deer probably got hit by a vehical and his wounds caused him to drop his antlers early. I never found a shed until then. It was a shame to find one under this circumstance.
Got out yesterday and managed to find a few keepers and some seedlings. Nothing big, but there's plenty of country to cover when the snow melts.
One of the seedlings...

Here is one that measures 2 1/2 inches. Better mass too... Of course it is a whitetail though, so that should disqualify it. :)

Been awhile. I have one group of pics of this buck from August. Now I need to find his 4 point, left side. Cameras can be misleading as this deer was hardly on my radar as far as size goes. The ones I'm looking for appear much bigger in a picture. Rough scored around 70". Pretty good for a state most people can't find on a map.

We've still got well over 2' of snow where I'm at but have still managed to snag a few. Hopefully I'll find some more come spring!

Heres one that came off the last week of December. I saw this buck the day before with all his headgear then I found this the next day. Also saw an old buck with knarly short spikes. Then a couple days later he was spikeless. I would love to find those spikes, there was a guard point coming off the burr toward his right eye.

Great job. I have looked a lot lately but no luck. There is a saying in East Texas that the squirrels chew the antlers off the bucks head before he can drop them. I'm beginning to believe it.
wow how do you guy's find all these??!! I just found my first shed ( a large whitetail 8 pointer) by accident three days ago. They were laying side by side next to a tree.
No sheds yet but my son found this Sunday while were out in the woods.

aggie 1993 was that a buck you guys were unable to recover or a result of something else? great find
It's actually a buck another hunter shot late in 2011. They had 4 hunters and a dog looking for it. I couldn't beleive it was the same deer because the antlers were well preserved but it is the same one as verified by a trailcam. My son decided to give his find to the hunter.
I went down on the farm today to do some stump shooting, and after I pulled my truck over and went around to the passenger side to get my bow and arrows out, lo and behold right beside my truck, is my first shed for the year.

I'm all fired up again. Our snow is melting, but more is on the way. I have a buddy coming up next week, and we are going to hit it hard! Can't wait!
I found two spikes within a foot of each other in the edge of my yard a couple days ago. Gave them to one of my buddies who makes knives.
Got out for a couple days of shed hunting last week and managed to find a few...
I had just told my buddy to keep his eyes peeled for some drive-by sheds and I looked out the window ... all I could do was was giggle like a little girl!

Great pics everyone!
This is the first year in many that we have struck out. The normal deer holding area here is vacant this year. Not sure why yet.
Cedars are thick, there are a few coyotes but no more than usual. Deer have just vanished.
Wow great pictures Ron! Thanks for sharing!!

They start dropping mid March here.
Well, have you guys back in the whitetail country been able to get out hiking yet?
Here's a few from my last couple of trips. Nice set laying near each other.

Last weekend I went looking for a couple big sheds to try and match up a couple found earlier, no luck finding them, but did find some others including a BIG 4pt from last year. It has a couple chews on the white side, but still has good color on the side that was down.

Best day and best shed so far this season
Nice work on the antlers sns!
Hiked around for four hours today and found 7 sheds. One 3pt seedling, a couple from last year, and two fresh sets. One nice 4pt set was laying one on top of the other...makes it easy to locate the match that way! :)

Thanks Ryan, it's much easier on my worn out knees than walking on the county road...plus I find an Easter egg now and then! :D
I've only covered 3 miles this year, nothing so far.
Nice work tree killer and shootinstraight!
Great finds, guys. I've been out since the first week in Feb. but not one shed. Spent about 2 hours yesterday looking and came up with zip. Hard to find them here in SE Texas.
Still too much snow here at 5 pines!
Have to get out before the squirrels get to them.
Nice job Ron!

ahem... 4 pines and a stem ;) :readit: :biglaugh:
Jim, I hope you are surviving the winter OK.
Found the matched set from the buck me and my brother David have been after for a couple years. Missed him in November after getting a deflection. Mike

What a dandy buck mike hope ya score on him looks like he's really maturing!
That buck is a slob Mike...congrats on the sheds!
He will be 7 1/2 this Fall. I saw him the last day of our season, but he had already shed his antlers. It took us eleven hours of hard walking through thick brush to find them. We also found about 18 other sheds and several EHD killed bucks. Mike
Love those Mid Western bucks. Spend a bunch of years in Western central Indiana.
Wow!
Wow!
Wow Mike, pix may be a little deceiving, but looks like he was a little bigger, younger? Can you confirm? ....Thanx
went out this week, still snow over the knees, and cold. Found lots of sign but no sheds, I hope something is still alive in the north after such a bad winter.
Zbone. Younger he had more sticker tines down near the browtines, now he just has one on each side. He used to have double forked G-3, then he went two years with a straight G-3 on left side. Now he is back to double forked G-3s. He is heavier now with wider tines, but his beams and some tines are short this year compared to last, I did not show his last year shed. We could only find left side. He hould go about 180 gross.
Was just getting to be cleaned up here pretty good, snowwise and then about 15" and heavy winds landed 2 days ago.
Have to be content watching what you "banana belt" guys are doing...
Wow Mike, cool, thanx for sharing....
Got one

Found a nice four point @3 1/2 year old buck in Texas last Tuesday but can't post. Also found a buzz worm later in the day. Saw him first which was a good thing.
Great Finds Greg!
Thanks Charlie

gonna try and get out this week, but we had the baby last week and things are a little crazy right now!
Congrats on the new hunter in the family
I'm not sure she'll be a hunter, but I guarantee she'll be an outdoors women, being raised in this house. Logan and I already have plans for some family shed hunts next spring.
Hope she likes venison ;) :readit:

Great pics...
Great stuff!! How old is he? I have a 2 year old boy and took him fishing for the first time the other day and what a blast! Cant wait to take him out looking for sheds next year.
He turned 3 in April. He walked about 1 1/2 miles in the bush on his own without a complaint. I was so proud of him! He took a few spills but he's a tough kid. Time spent with kids sure is fun!! I've got another boy (Layne) that's a year and a half younger and I plan on taking him on my back for the next trip as I now realize that Jacob will be fine on his own!
Found this set a month or so ago.

Was camped out in eastern Oregon last week with my brother doing a little bear hunting and turkey hunting. Wasn't really looking for antlers, but managed to find three elk sheds and a buck shed.

So I got this picture in a text from my wife while at work. It's the shed off a buck I killed two years ago (compound) and I always new a guy a mile away from where we live had it. Well we just got possession of our new place across from this guy I speak of, and he tosses it in the stroller as my wife was going for a walk and says 'here's a house warming gift for you' Now that's my kind of neighbour!! (For those who are curious I figured him as an awesome 3 1/2 yr old here and he put on about 30" bringing him into the 205 gross range as a 4 1/2. A guy really has to wonder what he would have done in that magical 5th year.)

Went out today for a hike and got onto a few, 10 for the day, though only a few made the trip home! Best day shed hunting ever and a matched set to start the day. Too bad they are all fairly old and chalky, but I was still stoked!
