Looking to put a new string on my 58" Bear grizzly that is 45# and has a gray/green riser. Any specific recommendations of string material, number of strands. Does anyone put on fastflight? Maybe with padded loops?
Check with LBR on here, he will fix ya up. Champion Custom Bowstrings at the top of the page under sponsors list. Chad is as good as they get IMHO. Saved a out of state hunt for me years ago by shipping a rush bowstring to my hotel in Illinois.
I have an early 70s grizzly and they were not designed for fastflight and the newer ones aren't either.. a 12-14 strand dacron flemish string is what I would put on it..mine is a 45# and I have a 12 strand on it .. It shoots great..
I have a 70's Grizzly it is one of the yellow and black riser. I have an SBD skinny string on it.
A lot of guys will tell you not to use a FF string on your bow, There are quite a few of us that don't buy into that, I have been shooting pretty much all of my Bear Bows with FF on them with no ill effects. I actually gained 9FPS on that particular bow and it is whisper quiet, I personally think that at 45#s you wont hurt that bow at all, that being said you make up your own mind on that. You will get the maximum performance out of that bow if you go with the FF string.
I would definitely look up Pierre at SBD Bowstrings...TOPNOTCH!
Old school bow = old school string. I would make one out of B-50 and hunt with it.
I'd put B-55 on it. 12 or 14 strands, endless or Flemish.
Lefties R Us built one for my 45# Grizzly and I received it in less than 5 days. I also use SBD strings on all my newer bows. Can't go wrong with either!
Don't forget Josh at Oliverstaceys bowstrings,in the sponsor classifieds, great strings, fast service too. We have great sources here with our sponsors
I use a 54" 15 strand B50 Flemish twist string on my 45# Grizzly made in 1967. Set brace height 7 1/2"-8". Mine is set at 7 3/4".
Just for your info,I am using a 55# Grizzly of the age of yours with askinny ff string and that thing is fast as the best custom I own at $130.
I don't advise you to use such a string but I did on many old Bear bows with out any issue.
Many folks use FF with padded loops and have for years with no ill effects. I use B-50 or B-55. I make my own and stretch them pretty well before using them. I'd use B-55 12 - 14 strands for that bow.
Grizzly's are awesome. 58" Grizzly's are hunting machines.
Give Allen at leftie r us a call. Just got a string for my 1964 Howatt Hunter from him. B 55. Awesome string and Allens tie on nock points are great. Ordered the string on Monday, got it on Thursday.
12 strands of B50 is plenty. Never had an issue with that under 50#s. No padded loops. I have never done a FF string on an older bow, but it probably would work if they were padded at least to 16 strands. I see others are doing FF strings on older bows. I gotta try it I guess.
Try an SBD string it will remove pretty much all of the hand shock out of the bow. I have found that the B50 strings DO have a bit of hand shock. SOOO now that I said that, don't any of you guys flame me as I have done a side by side comparison on my own bows and I CAN feel the difference.
