Title: Bear Takedown limb fit

I just received a new Bear Takedown. After looking it over and putting it together I notice a little play in the limbs after locking the clamp  down. Is this normal?  Can adjusting the screw take it out or is it an issue?

Any words of wisdom from the Gang are appreciated.

I have a Bear Takedown.   There is a very small amount of play when the limbs are attached to the riser.   When the bow is strung, no play is evident.   This was also true on older Bear TD's I have owned in the past.

  By adjusting the "screw' I assume you mean the screw that serves as the limb locator?   The screw serves to align the limb in the riser pocket and will not allow you to put the top limb on the bottom, or vice versa.  I have heard of some removing this screw but I have never had a problem with it.    I do know that sometimes a 'squeak' may develop between riser and limb.    This is easily remedied by putting a little string wax on the locator pin and riser pocket.

Some of mine have a little play, some don't.  I guess it just depends on that particular riser and limb fit.  I imagine a little play has to be built in to them in order to ensure that they fit all risers, from the ones built yesterday all the way back to the first ones in the 70's.  Once I string them, no play. They are rock solid.

You wanna see play between limbs and riser on an unstrung bow.... mess with some ILF bows!

So, I take it that a little play is not unusual.  Any advantage in trying to shim the play out?

Once its strung the play will be gone.

Thanks all for the input.  I strung it up and its shoots well. Now to start the tweaking and tuning.
