Title: Big Scout Project
Post by: dannyvp on January 16, 2014, 09:48:00 AM
Our local cub scout encampment needs around 50 arrows made.
Plain shaft, stone point, 2 fletchings maybe dipped blue and gold, or dipped gold with blue feathers.

Who could i get to do these?
I tried to look up some contact info for bullmtnarchery but couldnt find a phone number.

Ideas?

Sounds like arrow of light awards?

You can google this and find kits that a group of parents can do.  I always found it nice when the parents engaged and provided a gift they made.  Shows dedication to scouting, a solid example and almost every child I met would rather have an imperfect gift from a parent or leader than a nicer "store bought" item

I have done them with dowels from the hardware store and with cane that doesn't make the grade for arrows.

Pick up materials from one of our sponsors and have the kids make them.  They would certainly get more out of it if they did.

FYI stone points are going to run you at least $20.00 each unless you buy the India points.

It may be easier to make some out of plexi glass, you can cut strips and then cut triangles out with a band or scroll saw. Then bevel an edge od a bench grinder(dont make it sharp just a round over edge.)Just a thought, a pair of guys could make a ton in one evening.

And some poplar dowels from HD will be good for arrow shafts.

I found some dowels pretty cheap. I would think I could cut a V in one end for a nock and notch for a point.

Arrowheads heads out of lexan in a unique idea. We have piles of it laying around.

Seems the most expensive thing is blue feathers.
Anyone know a good source for those?

Try craft stores such as Michael's or Hobby Lobby.
