Post by: Kevin Lawler on January 16, 2014, 09:18:00 AM
Has anyone had the surgery and how did it affect your shooting?

Sorry just did a search and found a lot of the info I was looking for. If you have any updates then I would appreciate it.

I don't know if I posted on the other one but it worked well for me.  They did one wrist at a time and I was back shooting in a few weeks.  I did it this time of year, if I have to go without shooting this is the time.

I had the right wrist & elbow surgery then when they healed the Left side also. I did the therapy more than what was suggested. It consisted mostly stretching exercises to the fingers and wrist.

Still I did not regain as much grip back as what I had. However I never noticed any difficulty in shooting my bow. I do however have my fingers go numb while riding a Bicycle or a vibrating Harley after a few miles.

With a good surgeon this surgery has really good outcomes and quick healing. I would encourage you to work with a good hand therapist afterword.

Don't get both done at once. No matter what the dr. Says
Unless your wife doesn't mind wiping you butt.

I had my left hand done in July.  I was shooting (right handed) within a month but it felt like I had a pecan in my palm.  I was able to deer hunt by October and the pecan has slowly gone away.  After getting my deer, I had my other hand done.  Like mentioned above, I still don't have all my grip strength back yet but I don't have the pain or numbness either.  For me, it was worth doing.  Whatever you decide, I wish you luck.     :archer:

Moderate in left,  severe in right.  did both at the same time. no issues.  did the followup exercises as instructed. got a different computer mouse by 3M that looks like a joy stick but doesn't flex.  keeps your hand wrist and forearm in line. been several years no issues. just a small scar at the wrist.
