Title: Is 250 on 2016 wrong?
Post by: Bldtrailer on January 15, 2014, 06:43:00 PM
I was playing with my Dale dye 55@28 (I draw 27)so 52ish and tryed a 2016 bare shaft 281/4 long and shot it with different heads 150-175-200-250 and the 250 time after time shot the best!!??  Is it wrong? I'm going  to fletch up afew and try it through paper(only have the 1 250 head  :banghead: ) and see what  happens.

It could work.  I draw just a tad over 29 and I am shooting 30 1/8 inch 2016s with a 175 grain broadhead out of a 53# @ 28 St. Joe River recurve.

It isn't wrong if its working right. Or as they say whatever works for you.

It's not wrong unless you want a faster flatter shooting 2016 but then you'd have to increase the length and decrease the point weight. Depends on your requirements in an arrow.

Sounds like a pass thru arrow to me.........if it flies good how can it be wrong, and at hunting distances......perfect!

Depends a lot on your side/strike plate thickness and/or the bow's center-shot cut. I had the same results with 2016s in a similar setup with 28" 2016s. I HAD to put over 200 grains up front with the bow I shot to get it tuned. I'm sure full length would tune better without the weight up front but why change it if it works? I like more FOC weight.

Every setup is different and if that is working why not . You will have good weight forward .

Nothing wrong if it tunes, but I would have expected heavy FOC more on a 2018 or 2117, but maybe not at that short length.

Who cares about Right or Wrong if it works?  I'll trade perfection for functionally useful any old day!

What shoots the best IS the best. I used to have a recurve that liked a 2016 with heavy heads -- it is not unheard of. Use what works.

Have several 2016s and 6 were  cut to 281/4(dz purchased from another trad gang member)the others are full length so I tryed to see how to tune the 6 cut first>>>--> so far 250 up frount

Many are compromising with heavy heads and longer arrows instead of getting the right spine. Too much weight  forward and the pendulum affect is more critical with a not so great release . Try a lighter shaft and 150 grain head I'd bet it will shoot better for you .

Shoot what works as long as you are good with arrow flight I shoot full length 500 spine carbons drawing 29" and usually end up with 250 or more but shoot mainly longbows in the low fifties
