Title: Bear Outfitters?
Post by: Sawpilot 75 on January 13, 2014, 08:48:00 PM
I am looking to go on a bear hunt in 2015. I will be turning 40 and the wife has agreed to it! I was on a hunt years ago in Maine and missed a 18 yard shot on the last day of my hunt and it has haunted me ever since. I have been looking into Alberta as that area seems to have big black and color phase bears. Does anyone have a contact or know of a good bear outfitter that will take trad hunters?

I highly recommend you contact Tom Phillips about Bear Quest.  If you want a fall hunt, contact Tony Boucher of Squapan Mountain. I doubt you'd go wrong with anybody mentioned on this site!

Call Jerry Russell at Russell Outdoor Guides, I think he is a sponsor here and he posts a lot.

Doug Park of Wolf River Bear Baits in Ontario. He's a bowhunter so he knows your needs. He's been in business forever too so he has a ton of experience.

Members of the United Bowhunters of Missouri have been using him for several years now with great success. Ten of us went in 2012 and nine of us came home with bears. The tenth guy had several opportunities but couldn't seal the deal.

I went to Weitas Cr. Outfitters last year, and I am going back this year. Great country in Idaho, lots of bears, and Gary Haight, the outfitter, is a trad archery guy. His stands are set up for trad archers (don't ask me how I blew a 10 yard shot at a big color phase bear), and roughly 40 percent of his bears are color phase. The setting is great, the food is fantastic, and it is overall just a really fun place to hunt. This was my one and only 'guided' hunt, and I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it was a real hoot.

The catch with someone as good as Ryan is that his website says he is currently booked through 2017

My first choice would be to contact Ryan from Manitoba Stickflingers and get on his waiting list. You never know what could happen.

If you can't wait and want to nail something down immediately, there's a guy in northern Alberta that does a great hunt for $3600 and Alberta does have a two bear limit. Tell him what you want as far as stand height and distance and I'm sure he'll accommodate you.

I have known Ryan for many years. Ryan is one of the best whitetail and black bear hunters I know. If your looking for a quality bear hunt, in one of the best black bear areas in Manitoba.Stickflingers is the way to go. You will not be disappointed.

Blackbear Island Lodge.  Google it as I don't have the address handy.  They have good bears and the fishing is great.   You get the float plane experience and see some cool country.  Its in Sasaskchewan (sp)right outside of LaRonge Canada.

Another vote for Tom Phillips here on Tradgang. I've been to two Bear Quests and when I can afford it I'll certainly make it three. Killed a bear on each, one is in my avatar. Some awesome stories on here about each BQ that will certainly help convince you it's an incredible experience.

I've hunted bears with Walters Wilderness Camp in Saskatewon.  Lots of bears.
