Well, finally have some time to tell all about my latest trip to Africa. I didn't get to hunt very much as I was taking care of my clients that I booked on this hunt. I was there 9 days and only hunted 2 1/2 days. I didn't get anything big , but I got some cool critters. I got several different species but only two with the bow. I did miss a big male baboon. I committed the cardinal sin, I didn't pick a spot. I also had a non typical(one horn layed out flat to the side) Impala jump the string at 20 yds. Arrow went right where I wanted, just the impala wasn't there anymore, LOL. They are ALOT quicker than ANY whitetail I have ever seen. Here are a few pics.

We actually hunted on a orange grove owned by Dole fruit. Over 120,000 orange trees.
Great pics! Thanks, and welcome back home safe. Looks like nice country, and wow! lots of animals.
My PH had a leopard bait out, but he said something was on it but it wasn't a leopard. Did I want to sit at the bait one night and see what comes in? I said sure. A couple of hours after dark my PH said "get ready, I hear something on the bait" . He flips on the light and I see a Caracal cat(African lynx). A quick shot and he's in the bush. Leon(My PH) says" good shot!" My Rocky Mtn Recurve w/ Maddog limbs did the job.
One very lucky and happy guy!!!!!

The next night we were out again and we come across a porcupine. Boy, these run a lot faster than ours can! But it wasn't quite fast enough. They are a lot bigger too!!!
My Sierra Blanca caught him.

I took a few other interesting critters but they were not with a bow.
Awesome! congrats on the cat and the sticker ball!

I have only been back from Africa now a month and am in a constant dream state, it's all that I can think of and I am already planning on heading back in 2015.
Where are you hunting? This place look good.
ak.
Wow that is so cool. Wish I had the loot for a trip like that!
I hunted 3 different camps. The first was up on the Limpopo river along the Botswana border. The second was lion camp(I had 2 lion hunters) about 10-12 hrs south east, then back to Limpopo province, but not quite as far north.
It's more affordable than you think. My PH offers package hunts starting at $3500 for 5 days and 3 animals, up to 10 days, 6 animals for $5600. A lot more bang for your buck than North America. You cam PM me for more info if you want.
That caracal is sweet!
One grand adventure...thanks for sharing.
Nice pics, and that's a nice lookin' kitty!
Great Pics, Cool Critters! Congrats!
Wow! Nice job Mike! That porkypine is HUGE! lol That's funny that he was so fast! Post the pics when you get them mounted. That's really cool.
Wow, great pictures.
Congrats Mike! Those are going to make some really cool looking mounts.

My sentiments exactly!!!
Great pics! Thanks for posting them!
Two VERY unique critters!!!
I had no IDEA porcupines could be THAT BIG!!!
I see you are a bamboo flyrod maker. I'd like to chat with you sometime to see if you could tell me about my Grandfathers rods I found stashed in a closet. He was one heck of a fisherman back in the day.
I also got 2 more porcupines(one BIGGER than in the pic), an African wildcat and a spotted genet, but not w/ the bow. So, yea , I got some unique trophies !!
Terry, give me a call or drop me an email, I'll see if I can help.
Cool Pics!!!
thanks for sharing... I appreciate it..
Was glad that I was able to, once more, read and view the pics of this fine adventure.
Will likely do it again.
Thank you for sharing this splendid trip.
Great Photos!
Thanks for sharing , awesome !
What a wonderful adventure. Thanks so much for sharing your time on the Dark Continent. Great pics. That moment when the PH flipped the light on the Caracal had to be exciting, not knowing what you were about to see! Man, just plain cool.
Tim

It was pretty cool :D
Very nice pictures!! Congrats
I agree with you, PD. Anyone who has gone knows there is no more bang for the buck anywhere. The experience is definitely worth it if one can afford it.....and good companions make a huge difference! I treasure my time there. However, it is also only fair to be realistic: come back from ANY big hunt anywhere with an animal that you are going to mount and the expense will be higher. Bring 6 or more animals from halfway around the world, and THEN have them mounted.....added to the airfare, it's something that a fellow planning the trip should think about.
I have said twice that I won't go again.... but, I'm thinking about it.....again!
Very cool, unique trophies!
you have to love Africa. The wife and I went in 2000 and I still have vivid dreams of our days there. One day I hope to return with some other tradgang brothers.
Real cool animals.
